Yup and out of the otherside of their mouth slagging the club off for not signing the right players, scouting them properly or getting the right deal etc...

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
Players, agents let alone selling clubs will all be looking for the best deal they can get - especially for high profile younger players.
Benfica know Fernandes wants out, nobody knows if he can cut it in the Premier therefore the talk of a loan rather than £35m now, even the bigger clubs are unlikely to gamble this sort of sum. Thing is if he does cut it then it is likely his value will be way above £35m but if he fails then that is his absolute top price possibly less. Makes agreeing a fee and structure awkward. Is it an option to buy or a commitment at that fee in 18 months - who will take the potential risk reward etc.
Meanwhile the agent and player would obviously want the most wages and highest profile club they can get. Sign quickly for a club like us and there is no hope in enticing the higher profile clubs to enter the frame yet those clubs have to feel the pressure that he might be moving soon.
All this to be done in 24 hours or so is never going to happen.

They should have at least 5 targets for each position they are looking at with a reasonable understanding of how likely it is to secure those players. At a minimum it gives them some extra leverage when pushing for a signature.
The difference in quality available to us right now will be negligible - what are we waiting for?
I'm usually an advocate of being patient in the transfer market, but I don't think we have that luxury currently.

As Hugh says, we can be in a lot worse trouble come the end of the window, when things can get a lot more expensive and a lot more risky.Crouchend_Hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 11:22 am We do need players this week.
However, that doesn't mean clubs will want to sell us players this week, or that players/ agents will want to sign a deal this week. There is no need for them to rush into anything
It isn't a one way process

At some point our badge will be written in Chinese anyway to keep the sponsors happy when KB rebrands us to the 'London Dragons'

Watch how fast a player will be signed up by them, in January under Sully we seem to take forever or never at all in most cases as he keeps low balling every target.PlaistowIron wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:37 pm Sky are reporting that Spurs are after a loan midfielder as Sissoko is injured for 3 months...

Liverpool had a new player BEFORE the window even opened how come we never get 'em in early

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
The suggestion in one of the reports yesterday was that they aren't entirely sure Fernandes is ready to slot straight into the team.
In almost any other position on the field that wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not sure we can go another 3 or 4 months with just what we have in central midfield. Needs someone who was ready to go yesterday.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
because we aren't top of the league, aren't champions league winners ,don't have a particularly attractive manager to player under, have tight & dodgy owners, are in a relegation battle rather than fighting at top of the table .... I wonder why we cant get deals done quickly.ageing hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:47 pm Watch how fast a player will be signed up by them, in January under Sully we seem to take forever or never at all in most cases as he keeps low balling every target.

Potential Liverpool signings aren’t stalling to see if West Ham come calling.ageing hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:47 pm Liverpool had a new player BEFORE the window even opened how come we never get 'em in early

Exact quote: "Fernandes is highly rated and it is widely believed he has a good chance of ending up at a club with greater aspirations than West Ham. While he has family in London, he has been strongly linked with Lyon and Manchester United."
Finger on the pulse over there at the Guardian then...
I asked a Portuguese, Benfica supporting mate about Fernades on Friday and he said the talk over there was of Inter, Man Utd or Lyon, not West Ham.
It did however, later in the day, get mentioned on Benfica TV that West Ham were now interested at a price of 40M Euros.
He is very highly rated but apparently has stagnated this season following an early season injury, and with his parents living in London who knows...

It isn't going to much persuading to get a player to sign for Liverpool!ageing hammer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:47 pm Watch how fast a player will be signed up by them, in January under Sully we seem to take forever or never at all in most cases as he keeps low balling every target.

Or Spurs for that matter

Of course! Now I know why our scouting is so bad. Yesterday’s man, you say?
West Ham to announce double signing of Darren Randolph and Joe Allen. They join David Moyes at West Ham, the manager welcoming the duo as he appoints Joe Cole to his coaching staff.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
It could be that, having not really had much time to evaluate his playing staff and draw up shortlists, he's looking at short-term options to see out the season, where he will then have a much better idea of what he needs and what he wants.
