As noted there is a unilateral 1 year extension available.

Makes the most sense for them to hold him. If they get promoted it's much easier to sign him to a new long-term deal, if they don't they can trigger the extension, slap a 20M price tag on him and get far more offers in the summer when more teams are looking to make deals.

Don’t waste any time worrying about Jarrod Bowen, that’s for sensible clubs to weigh up.

His wikipedia article doesn't make great reading...
During his time there, he had several disagreements with first-team head coach Martin Jol, who, after his departure from Spurs, complained several players had been signed by Comolli without his agreement and that they had left the squad "unbalanced".
After leaving Saint-Étienne for Liverpool, the club's co-chairman Bernard Caiazzo said that Comolli was responsible for causing the club's financial problem and told the News of the World:
"Damien spent €22 million [£18.7 million] of our money on seven players in summer of last year. Only one is a first-team regular now. We gave him the keys to our club and are now in financial difficulties. My own view of Damien is he favours size and strength as the qualities he goes for first. Perhaps, he will do better with more money at his disposal at Liverpool than he did with us."
Comolli made an instant impact at Liverpool as he was responsible for the signings of two players, Luis Suárez and Andy Carroll, on January 2011's transfer deadline day, with Carroll's signing breaking the record for most expensive British player ever and eighth most expensive player in history, overtaking Wayne Rooney

Dimitri Payet, top corner screamer, the boys still got it, what a difference he would have made to us if he actually wanted to play for us. The best player we’ve had over the last decade, would have been up there with the legends..... shame

Payet’s been almost as good this season as he was the year before he joined us.

Has to be in with a chance of making their Euro squad even though he’s a the equivalent of a doddery old man.

Comolli took Suarez to Liverpool and Bale to Spurs. There's a reasonable argument that he's the reason they came out of their torpor.

Best player I have ever seen in a West Ham shirt.

I never saw the world cup 3, but plenty of Sir Trev towards the end.

Frank Arnesen was much more influential at Spurs, and Comilli’s managerial signing of Ramos was hopeless. Jol asked him for an two experienced players, one of which to be a winger, and he bought him Darren Bent, Kaboul and Kevin Prince Boateng. Jol was making good progress until Camolli came on the scene.

He also made Andy Carroll the most expensive British player in transfer history. His Liverpool signings were, by and large, not very good.

He couldn’t even hold down a job at Fenerbache!

No one always gets it right - but he signed players that transformed them.

It's really very funny that Jol asked him for a winger - you're criticising it - and he'd signed Bale, the best winger in the world not so long after.

Jordan Henderson was another 'dud' he signed.

Apparently we're paying 75% of Roberto's wages ! Bonkers.

I wonder how many superstars we will be "in talks" with in the morning papers (on the eve of our protest) ?
