West Ham Utd 1-1 Everton (18/01/20)

Re: West Ham United v Everton: Match Thread
Retroactive action wouldn't apply in the Ajeti case. It has already been addressed on the pitch - in that the Ref. flagged it and VAR adjudicated on it. Retroactive action would only apply if the Ref. wasn't aware/missed it at the time of the incident and therefore was never dealt with on the field.

Speaking of retroactive action, it sounds like Anderson isn’t likely to be back for the next game either. They really should consider retroactive bans for deliberate professional fouls that injure a player.
There’s obviously some subjectivity like in the case assessing bans for diving in the box, but Anderson’s case was clear cut. Properly snide clearout that wasn’t an attempt to win the ball.

According to MOTD it could be reviewed again post match because the on field ref didn't see ittraxop wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 5:58 am Retroactive action wouldn't apply in the Ajeti case. I don't know how true that is by the way just repeating what I heard
If a three match suspension forced Sullivan to open his wallet it might not be the worst thing in the world

Dream on Crouchend!
The team/squad deficiencies were already blindingly obvious. Sullivan has risked survival, again, on what he already has.
We might get a loan or two in. Signings, in January? I doubt it.

Re: West Ham United v Everton: Match Thread
reasonable performance and match. should have taken our chances in the first half and poor defending for their goal.
happy with the commitment and effort shown but lanzini is very off form. doesn't drive forward just sideways and no pace at all.
moyes killed us when he took fornals off as it should have been lanzini.
haller doesn't do enough for me and looks so miserable. he should try watching the game and not being on his 80k a week !
we lacked any pace on the wings and only when masuaka came on did we inject any pace.
have to hope that Antonio and/or Anderson are back for Leicester.
Snodgrass was my motm . he was knackered at the end but put good crosses in and tried so hard.
cresswell showed how not to take a corner in the second half passing it staright to the everton player
where are the signings we need ?

Apologies if this is not posted in the right place, but if you lost a wallet on Stratford's platform 10 after the game we handed it in to the station staff.

Everton there for the taking, looked on a par with Bournemouth. We lacked quality everywhere, slow, no vision, not seeing runs. Quite how you watch that and decide Fornals comes off and Lanzini stays on? Moyes needs to go to Specsavers. Ajeti put in more effort in 8 mins than Lanzini in the whole second half. Well done to Diop, looked like he'd lost his confidence after the Kane mauling, goal will do him the world of good. Oggy couldn't pass to save his life first half. Team looks bereft of confidence, and some look disinterested. If Antonio had played we would have won that.

For what it's worth, I thought Ajeti in his cameo was the best player on the pitch. I didn't spot the 'headbut' but I was thinking at the time that Ajeti had put some spice into the game.
One other thing, one of ours in the row in front of me was incensed at some 'monkey' chanting and called the stewards. I didn't hear the chanting but he did calm down in the second half and get his mojo back. I got the impression that they were tourists (and all seemed to be young women)!

I just wish we would get behind defenders so much more, players want ball to feet all the time which closes down the space we can play in....its called lack of pace in the team....when do I our wide players ever burst through diagonally....never...
This will also help us get crosses in...Haller is excellent in the air...

Ajeti was lucky...wonder if they looked at Holgate's absolutely laughable play acting including clutching his head whilst trying to look for the ref and thought not worth the effort.

If we could of taken our chances we would of won that. Not the best game of footy but it’s another point towards safety. The next few games are gonna be tough but you never know, we might grab another couple of of draws before we get to the more winnable games.

Fair enough, I know what you mean about the two angels...
I'd be all for that but then again I thought they couldn't possibly f*** up VAR...

I don’t think Haller was that bad.
He was just isolated by the negative tactics we continue to use.

Did Moyes sleep with your wife Billy?Billydinho wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 2:16 pm I don’t think Haller was that bad.

Your anti-Moyes rhetoric is bordering on Jaybs vs Carroll levels of obsession.
Our two best players were injured, we pressed Everton into enough errors that we probably should have been 3 up at half time. 'Not that bad' Haller could have had a hat trick.

Paid a lot of money for him, not looking a great replacement for Arnautovic so far. Not sure what he would be like as part of a front 2.

Re: West Ham United v Everton: Match Thread
That's one of the problems, he's a totally different type of player than Arnautovic. Arnautovic relied on pace and getting into the clear, he was best alone and was terrible in the air. Haller is really best supporting another striker, winning everything in the air, setting up others, cleaning up rebounds etc. Give Haller a partner and you really see him shine. Interesting that he and Jovic dominated together (32 goals 14 Assists combined) and each has struggled with a new club.Southminster Hammer wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 3:38 pm Paid a lot of money for him, not looking a great replacement for Arnautovic so far. Re: West Ham United v Everton: Match Thread
You don't pay £45m for a player who can only play in one type of system or with one other player.
You expect a little bit of versatility, adaptability for that
It was a complete panic purchase made on a whim
