Watched Kessie live at Milan vs Napoli a couple of months ago.
Came on as a sub and was comfortably the worst player on a pitch full of average players.

He's not the answer.
A more negative Diame. Good in every 6th game, mostly anonymous, vastly less physical than his physique suggests.

Sigh, if only we'd signed Hayden in the summer... He would've been such an important player for us this season.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
If games are passing him by in Serie A then how's he going to cope in the Premier League? He is a strong powerful player though and probably has the potential to be better than he's showing at the moment. Whether he has the attitude to do that, I don't know - I'm sure I recall reading at some point that his attitude was questionable. He is more of a box to box player though I think, whereas Sander Berg is more of a Rice type defensive midfielder.

For all the talk of recalling Cullen - is he not injured currently?
Not played since Nov 23rd.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
One thing we would need to account for is that Milan is a circus with a real lack of joined up thinking (ok probably not much different from west ham) It is hard for any player to really thrive there. They have an extremely expensively built squad boasting piatek, rebic, hernandez, donnarumma, leao, paqueta, Bennacer, calhanoglu, suso, Romagnoli and had others. The fact that they are normally around midtable most seasons shows there is more behind the scenes

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
Is Kessie physically strong enough for the PL? He’s obviously a big guy but does that mean there’s a danger we assume he’s automatically physical enough? In the same way that Diop is tall so you’d expect him to win every header (but he’s actually not all that good in the air IMO).
Kessie has looked a bit soft and a bit easily pushed around for his size - on the few occasions I’ve watched him play.
We won’t sign him anyway as he will cost money and he doesn’t fit the managers ‘ready now’ criteria.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
A young box to box midfielder who can cover the ground well, great age with potential to improve,
He's exactly what we need.
Getting him and nzonzi shores up and at the same time adds energy to the weakest area of our current team.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
So is it fair to assume that our midfield choices according to media comprise of:
Kessie - possibly available on loan with an obligation to buy in the summer
Berg - I imagine they'd want an outright purchase, no initial loan - 15m
Allen - Probably 7 or 8 million
NZonzi - Short term loan until the end of the seaon

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
This was a Milan fan website assessment of him last season -
Franck Kessie
Rating: 6.5/10
A season of ups and downs for the Ivorian. Kessie was perhaps one of the most criticised players amongst the current squad due to his inability to deliver fundamentals in the final third. He seems to freeze and forget how to pass, cross and shot more often than not. However, his role in midfield of pressing, winning balls and driving forward have been unparalleled and Milan always struggled when he was not on the pitch. Moreover, he scored at key moments and has lots of room for development.

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
with our 200 attacking midfielders his work in the middle of the pitch would be more valuable

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
I actually don’t mind Kessié, but he’s the type of player I can see our fans getting the hump with fairly quickly. As soon as he has those games where he starts getting bullied by stronger types used to the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, he’ll look like Haller, but in midfield.
I still think he’s half decent and certainly wouldn’t be against giving him a try, but don’t think he provides all of what we need right now. I’d rather have Linetty tbh...

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
All risks. That risk would be reduced if we went for two. NZonzi and Kessie - both on loan.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 21, 2020 12:07 pm So is it fair to assume that our midfield choices according to media comprise of:

Re: The January Transfer Window 2020
Agree, has to be a better option. Not seen much of him, admittedly, since BT lost the Serie A rights I don’t see much Italian football these days.
But 23’s a good age to develop and adapt to the league.

Same here Steps. I am basing it on my belief that most players in the Top Divisions of Good European leagues are better than Our Carlos
