I am using that link that one of you here gave us a few weeks ago I will post it below.

I asked this already but I will ask it again as it's doing my head in, how come Russia and nearly all the easternbloc countries and also Turkey have little or no case or deaths.

They are next door to countries who are flooded with cases and some of them are even surrounded by counties with case yet they have almost nothing.

Even the counties like Singapore who took the immediate action necessary and closed the airports the minute it started spreading from China ( which if everyone else had we would not have half the **** that's coming ) but even Singapore had 202 cases and no deaths.

Yet Russia with 144 million people only have about 50, if you use the link and check most of the countries I speak about some have 4 or 5 cases .

Either they are not recording the data or something very fishy is happening.

Did you know that the average number of deaths from 'ordinary flu' in England for the last five seasons, 2014 to 2019, was 17,000 deaths annually?
And?

Portugal too is Coronavirus free, yet it has a 500 mile border with Spain, which has over 1,000 reported cases

Given that the government's actions have increased the chances of getting infected from PROBABLE to ALMOST DEFINITE, and that they're writing off the resultant death toll as collateral pleb damage, I guess that the vulnerable should be out licking door knobs so that they get access to the hospital's good stuff before there's a queue around the taxi rank.

Yep, we will get the same behaviour here if not worst, especially from the yoof, unaffected and invincible ( We've all been there)

IT will only hit some when a close family dies and then the regret comes in droves
Which will be too little too late sadly.

We have the same issue in Cork, we were all told to keep our distance and only 100 in a pub etc... yet all pubs are packed ffs.

A doctor sent this message out to them in a vain effort to curb it but I think the government should just close them to save lives.

Here's her message:

The Cork man, who's wife is a GP in Fermoy, has now shared a message she's been sending around to local WhatsApp groups.

The harrowing message is a reminder to all that the coronavirus situation could escalate to an extreme level if we're not careful.

She said: "Please can you send to all the people who are planning to go to the pub or gym this weekend.

"Please please think seriously about going out to the pub or gym this weekend,

"We know Covid-19 is spreading in Cork and elsewhere in Ireland, of all those who catch it this weekend around 15 percent will end up in hospital in 13 days, that might not be you, but it might be your parent, grandparent, or your friend with diabetes,
there may be a bed but there probably won't be a ventilator when they need it.

I think there is another thread somewhere that says Portugal don't do deaths.

@ageinghammer

Freedom of movement does not stretch to Russia and Turkey so disease isn't so easily spread . They also have dictatorship that will control what is relèased.

Germany have near enough the same number of cases as France but only 10% of the deaths. ????

I quipped the exact thing a few days ago :D

One thing though about the lack of ventilators, what about all the countries I mentioned who have little or no cases, is there any way of borrowing some or is it not possible to move them etc...

Why haven't any of the dead been named?? In almost any other situation, even if the authorities dont officially say, the victims end up being "named locally" on social media and the like. Im not saying I care but it seems very odd that's all.

I get that but surely with 144 million people and their airports were all running as normal coming from all over the world someone would have brought the virus into the country ...surely

The Cork
"Please please think seriously about going out to the pub or gym this weekend" etc
This basically show how people cannot be trusted to do the correct thing. I bet this scenario is being played out all over this and every other non-lockeddown country.

Whilst I think keeping schools open is a good idea, the government should have put travel bans in place much sooner and ordered the closing of public places this week.

An Italian doctor working on the frontline of the coronavirus outbreak in his country has warned Irish people that they will need to totally change their lifestyles if coronavirus is to be controlled.

He said school closures initially did not work in his country, and more extreme measures had to be taken because people failed to heed advice to distance themselves from others.

Dr Giovanni Guaraldi, an infectious disease specialist working in Modena in northern Italy, said doctors in Italy have learned that coronavirus is very easily acquired in the community and public health officials need to be prepared to communicate properly with people about how to slow its spread.

Dr Guaraldi said: "Initially people do not really understand the message. We closed the schools but still people were gathering with one another.

"We had to take extreme measures, for example now you cannot walk near another person, they stop you and tell you, you need to stay at home.

"We need to be clear, the only way to protect against the spread of the epidemic is stay at home and try not to meet other people.

They have 59 cases in Russia.

As for the ventilator issue - too many nations have outsourced too many things. The Chinese are giving the Italians a large donation.

In terms of co-operation, I would have thought the EU should be stepping up to the plate given that nearly 2000 EU citizens will be dead by the end of the day.

From the outside looking in, it seems to be every country for themselves and the Brussels lot have gone incognito. They make Trump look like Roosevelt.

Various reports of airlines going to their governments looking for bailouts but how? Nobody knows how long this is going to last. If it goes on for 6 months surely ALL airlines across the world will go bust?? The worlds taxpayers cant be expected to foot the bill for all that can they??

What about all the ancillary businesses around air travel; taxi firms, caterers, airplane manufacturers, airport retail staff, security etc. All are going to be redundant virtually overnight.

So these measures are demonstrably not working, yet you want us to follow suit?
We will know if they work or not just by next week. The incubation period of this virus can be as long as 14 days, we’ve gone in total lockdown on the 11th.

Up to 24 days

Government to ask over 70's to self isolate for up to 4months?

What makes you believe that this virus won't restart once the lockdown ends ?

The lockdown is an attempt to mitigate the existing issue; it doesn't eradicate the possibility of a new flare up the minute normality resumes.

The point is exactly that. Mitigate and allow hospitals to have beds to put people in. Lombardy, a region with one of the best NHS in the world, is on the verge of collapsing, even during lockdown. Can you imagine what would have happened if we had let the virus run free as your government is trying to do?
The assumption “let people get it, they will become immune” has the fatal flaw that once someone gets it, and is asymptomatic, he will infect at least 5 others.
