Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Really great to see our skipper announce today that he's donating his weekly Evening Standard column fee for the season to Newham Foodbank.
“I’m going to donate the fees for my Evening Standard columns this season to the Newham Foodbank, a fantastic charity helping to feed the most vulnerable and at risk local people in east London. At this difficult time, they need our help more than ever.”
Terrific gesture, really appreciated

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Just an update on what's been going on elsewhere:
Burnley: playing staff made a cash donation to their community foodbank, the amount also matched by the club
Manchester: both clubs today announced a joint £100k donation for the city's 19 foodbanks
Liverpool/Everton: LFC donating £10k to the foodbank for every postponed home game, plus separate sizeable cash donations from the club
The city's mayor has offered the gym at Wavertree Sports Centre as a foodbank distribution centre
Jacob's donated 20 pallets of biscuits to North Liverpool foodbanks
We're sure more gestures will be made public very soon including some from our club. In the meantime Newham Foodbank are looking for 'man with a van' favours to move food donations around their 7 centres in the borough.
Any volunteers? If so drop us a line at ironsfoodbank@gmail.com
Thanks

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
We were pleased to see that over 1000 chocolate eggs were donated since the Southampton game for our appeal. These have been distributed over the last few weeks by Newham Foodbank to local families with kids needing to use the foodbank. Many thanks to the club and associated partners, plus the number of Hammers fans and friends who supported the appeal.
Since the lockdown it's become even harder for the foodbank to operate with the extra demand on making home deliveries to the vulnerable, and a general reduction in the usual food drop offs at supermarkets and other outlets. On top of that, their 7 centres are now each supplying on average 690 meals a day, way over twice what they were providing a month ago. Much of this is now sourced and bought directly from supermarket chains and is a bigger drain on their finances. Any donations to give.net/newham_foodbank are always welcome. They're up to 26% of their initial target tonight, but this figure in reality was set way before the current crisis.
We're in regular contact with the Foundation and the club regarding durther assistance to the community.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Quick bump.
On Monday there is a foodbank collection at 10.00 - 12.00 at the Breakthrough Church, 165 Hanging Hill Lane in Hutton for anyone out this way.
I had collected some for Newham but was asked to keep it local as the Trust distribute within.
Happy to collect any en route if people pm.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Whilst it's been frustrating for us in not being able to collect food on behalf of Newham Foodbank we can only remind fans and friends that we can donate Saturday's beer money or whatever to their funding page at http://www.give.net/newham_foodbank
Newham's demand is still growing, over 100 people in the foodbank queue at Manor Park yesterday. 87 vouchers processed. Take an average family size of 4, with 3 daily meals for 3 days = 3132 meals
In other news the WHU Foundation has provided a vehicle and driver to make food parcel deliveries to the vulnerable in Newham. We're still in regular contact with the Foundation and the Club on further support.
We're one of a small handful of Premier League clubs operating a fans' foodbank. The Merseyside clubs generally take the lead on initiatives as they've built up their foodbank support for 5 years. Their current project is to collect donations for the local manufacture of PPE visors (apparently hospitals have reported that they're better than NHS quality) supplied FOC for local hospitals. They've so far made 5000. They've decided to help the other fans' foodbank groups, so this Saturday will be delivering several 1000 to Newcastle and the 2 Manchester clubs. I'll also be picking up a quantity destined for our East London hospitals. A terrific gesture.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Under different circumstances we would have been playing at Old Trafford today. Instead I went over to the Etihad to meet the folks from Liverpool's Fans Supporting Foodbanks.
They've donated 1000 PPE visors to us for East London hospitals and front line care workers. The club is looking at getting them delivered to the Newham Foodbank's Beckton warehouse during next week, from where they'll be distributed locally.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
We would have been collecting food and cash donations before the Villa game today. Sadly we'll be approx £600-£700 short in donations for Newham Foodbank. In the last full week they've supplied 616 Newham families, over 22,000 meals. Please donate here to help them if you can :
http://www.give.net/newham_foodbank
In other news, through our association with the national Fans Supporting Foodbanks group, we have 1,000 PPE visors presently being distributed to hospitals and care homes in East London.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
The last of the 1,000 PPE visors donated by Merseyside PPE Hub were distributed this week by our own mywhufc. Thanks Nigel
Newham Council received 350 for care home and frontline staff. Over 500 went to 4 hospitals in the NHS Barts Hospital Group, Brentwood Community Hospital and Barking Hospital. Another 50 went to Aspire Community Care whose carers make home visits to the Newham vulnerable.
The PPE Hub have now made over 40,000 visors for national distribution. Yesterday 2,000 were delivered to London Underground frontline staff.
Just for info, last Thursday the Hub held a #LapsForLives fundraiser around their car park for 12 hours, each runner doing 15 minutes. A few names ran including Johnny Vegas, Jamie Carragher, Sue Smith and Neil Mellor. By the end they had pledges for £15,000. The whole distance had been calculated as 66 miles, which was equivalent to a return trip to the Etihad to bring the Premier league trophy to Liverpool

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
As UTJ has featured on the home page, David Sullivan has donated £3,500 to Newham Foodbank to cover what we estimate was lost to the foodbank from the 5 cancelled home games. When he heard about the shortfall he contacted us and said he'd cover this amount personally.
It was also an unexpected gesture of him to donate a further £1,500 to the Merseyside PPE Hub for the 1,000 PPE visors that last week were distributed to east London and Essex hospitals, and Newham Council for their care homes and front line workers.
Fair play.

Re: Irons Supporting Foodbanks
Many thanks to everyone who watched and donated at DJ Russ's fundraiser tonight.
A great quiz and top interview with Matty E.
We collected generous donations of a dozen raffle prizes and I know these are going to good homes.
Including anonymous donations we got to £9,571, just short of our £10k target, BUT, the just giving page is still open, just in case : http://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/ ... gfoodbanks
