West Ham Utd 2-1 West Bromwich Albion (19/01/21)

Post by Shabu »

I don't see a match thread yet & the game is only a handful of hours away so here we go.

We welcome 19th placed West Brom to our gleaming stadium on Tuesday evening in a clash that could move us up to the fringes of a Champions League place & could move them from 19th to 18th.

WBA are coming off their first win since November after beating a poor form Wolves with the help of two penalties.

Apart from their games against Liverpool & Man City they've let in 21 goals in their last 6 matches.

On the flip side we've only scored 5 goals in our last 6 matches but haven't let in a goal in over six hours of football (in all competitions).

Our overall record against them is 40 wins, 41 losses & 25 draws - but we've only won four of the last 18 games against them (9 draws).

I doubt very much if this will be a high scoring thriller but am hoping that Antonio stays fit & am looking at Soucek to pop up with a late winner from a set piece.

1-0 West Ham.

Nice thread start, Shabu.

I do not think that we will give away two soft penalties like Wolves did.

Another clean sheet and at least 2 goals.

West Brom have scored 14 league goals so far (joint 3rd worst) and conceded 41 (by far the worst) so Hammers by 2 or 3.

I just hope Snoddy does not score and the Hammers get three points.

Hopefully we can go 1 up with an early(ish) goal and draw them out so we can hit a couple more.

Like to see Benny get on the scoresheet (and Dec for that matter). Also another clean sheet please boys.

We need to be careful of the long throws and set pieces, winning the second ball will be really important. Wolves had plenty of the ball in good areas and carved open chances they are missing Jiminez.
Sam has them working hard and playing to their strengths but they got lucky with poor defending by Wolves gifting them goals.
If we turn up we can take 3 points but we have to be on it as Sam would love to take 3 points from us.
Antonio and Benni to score

0-0, at worst.

Og The Destroyer and friends can keep a clean sheet at Goodison and St. Mary's, so it's a serious meltdown to allow these to score against us.

We'll need to be patient, but, a day or so ago, if I'd been asked which of WBA or Burnley we'd more likely beat, it would have been Team Gravy Gum, The Throstles.

Coming soon, with that berk Sammy Lee in tow.

You go get 'em, Top Half Irons!

(2-0, Bowen, Souey)

I want to stick with a winning team. But am equally concerned Antonio can't start 2 games this soon after his long lay off. I suspect Moyes may risk playing him, as he can rest him in the Cup game against Doncaster after anyway. Otherwise maybe give Mipo his chance to see what he can do.

I think Antonio has to start with the lack of firepower we have.
If we manage to get a 2 goal cushion we might be able to rest him.
The young lad should get his chance to start in the cup

Looking at the West Brom forum match thread and many think they should be aiming for a win.

It’s laughable but let’s hope it permeates through the team so they don’t just sit deep all game.

We need to attack this one. They are vulnerable, so it would be a mistake to go too conservative.

Big game for us and for Big Sam and WBA. Win this and keep the confidence and momentum going.
Need to get at them from the start.
I’m going for a 2-0 win with Bowen and Soucek.

Same team that started against Burnley please.

Fabianski
Coufal Dawson Ogbonna Cresswell
Rice Soucek
Bowen Benrahma Fornals
Antonio

Subs: Randolph, Fredricks, Alves, Johnson Diop, Lanzini, Yamolenko, Noble, Odubeko.
