Most people accepted the bullet biting on Haller on the assumption that we'd be replacing him with a better fit to push us on this season.

We're in 5th...does anyone seriously expect we will stay there with such a thin squad?

It's shameful to be honest.

Diafra Sakho (out of contract) sometime next week seems to be about the best bet.

True, but not quite what I asked. To be 'Picky' we sold a greatly under performing striker, whilst having other options that other teams would be more than happy with (Antonio, Bowen, Soucek, Benrahma, Yarmalenko, Lanzini, Rice etc. etc.). To be fair, I think that Lingard adds to those options. Of course I would be happier with a new striker, but as a replacement for Antonio not Haller and as I said in my original post I am underwhelmed by those proffered as potential competition/replacement.

Why not? It is that same thin squad that got us there in the first place

Liverpool signing Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak is a bit harsh on Nat Phillips. I thought he was pretty solid in both the matches against us. I know he’s Liverpool (really Bolton) through and through, but when VannDijk, Matip and Gomez are back, he’s now behind those 3 plus Kabak and Davies. He’s out of contract in June, I’d be reaching out to his agent tomorrow if I were Moyes.

If we stay as relatively lucky as we have done so far with injuries then we'll be fine. But if we lose the wrong players (Rice, Soucek, Antonio) then there's no way we can stay this high.

It’s not though is it.

When Antonio was last out we had Haller. He wasn’t great but he was a lot better than no-one which is what we have now.

I didn't seriously expect we'd be there in the first place if I'm honest.

Yeah, quite a distinction our club are proving here with ONE senior striker in the squad.
Can't see other clubs following that strategy somehow.
Actually having loaned Tosun, unless they sign King, Everton have only on recognised central striker in Calvert-Lewis (converted winger) otherwise it is Iwobi, Richarlison, Bernard or a youngster (Gordon).

Actually DNA research has found only a small proportion of the population is actually Arab. According to the World Facebook:

“Although almost all Algerians are Berber in origin (not Arab), only a minority identify themselves as primarily Berber, about 15% of the total population.”

Funnily enough, my wife is Iranian, and they find it insulting to be called Arabs.

At least they're trying to address the issue!

We are not going to sign the fella from PSG tonight, we are not going to sign Costa, King or anyone for that matter.

The narrative will be that they tried, and Moyes didn't want to spend for spend sake and wanted to wait till summer. What that means is they could not convince or maybe even try for the targets Moyes wanted and Moyes doesn't want the players on Salthouse books.

Those who are saying that he is waiting until summer are buying the line. Of course, if Moyes cannot get his top targets then go again in Summer but, could you honestly say that Moyes will be happy with just Antonio especially with his injury problems?

We was linked with 25 forwards this window and you telling me we honestly could not attract one whilst being near top of the table?

I like the points made about Diangana and Benrama and it shows how Sullivan's business acumen is not worth squat. Moyes didn't want to sell and that was £25m we could have saved. Moyes apparently didn't even want Benrama so what's the point? I actually like Benrama but, would have enjoyed Grady pulling on the shirt instead.

Covid has hit hard and there are not many clubs making signings which I completely understand. That said, no other Premiership team is left without a striker in the first team either! "World class players for a world class stadium"

Compared to 0 goals and 1 assist.

But just watch them play. Chalk and cheese. Eze is direct, Said faffs about.

Come on, you know well enough that as the season progresses fatigue will kick in which affects players performance. Suspensions start kicking in and of course injuries. We've been led down this garden path by Sullivan before.

As maligned as Haller has been (and I wasn’t his greatest fan for us) he has positively contributed this season when Antonio has been out - winner against blades and equaliser against Palace. Full 90 minutes in wins against Fulham and Leeds as well as 90 in the draw against Brighton.

So players don't get tired? Lose form? Get injured over 38 games plus at least one more cup match?

Plus without the guy who at least chipped in with a few goals.

Right oh.
