Cricket English Summer 2021 + Ashes

Post by wolf359 »

County championship started this week in a new three group format, which I think is better over all.

A few decent scores early on -

Westley with 213 for Essex
Vince 231 for Hampshire
Billy Root currently winning the battle against his brother (currently 77no)

Snow stopped play at Headingley though :)

Good to see Mason Crane getting a few wickets. He's certainly an option for the Ashes if he can get a run of form together, with all due respect to Leach and Bess, an in-form wrist spinner down under could be massive. Good to see Reece Topley get a 5 for too, thought he'd retired from the FC game after all the Back issues he's had.

My daughter opened the batting yesterday for my juniors. I know I'm biased but to see her face the opening attack of 2 U15 lads so confidently was bloody brilliant.

The opposition were so impressed one lad asked for her phone number at the end of the game.

My wife and I had to explain the plot of Gregory's girl last night to her...........

When I was a school boy, I followed Essex all around the circuit. From our week at Leyton, the Ilford week, Gidea Park Brentwood, Chelmford, Westcliff, Southend and Colchester. Used to love it and it was always sunny and hot. Brian (Tonka) Taylor the wicket keeper, who always used to rock up at grounds in a Pink Parafin van, Barry Edmeades, a swing bowler, and middle order batsman who was always good value to break a partnership and Bill Greensmith, a useful late order batsman and left arm spin bowler, were my favourites. No idea why, but I could never stand Ted Dexter of Sussex and England

Harmer gets a 9fer for Essex 9 for 80 off 25.5 overs. If only we could get him in an English shirt.

Archer to have surgery on his dodgy elbow...got to be a doubt for the Ashes now surely?

If you're not watching Darren Stevens at the moment you really want to be.

Been a miserable start to the new format for Kent as we sit rock bottom but hopefully Darren Stevens’ innings might kick start the season.
Fifteen 6’s in his 190, awesome, Stevens scoring 62% of Kent’s total of 307. From 128/8 to 307 all out, that’s a fair old rescue act.

Tomorrow is the start of the first test against NZ at Lord's! Weather set fine, all very exciting.

Will there be any spectators?

The Bacon and Eggs brigade will be allowed in to Lords but 18,000 per day at Edgbaston next week as it's a designated trial event.

Bracey to make his debut as a wicketkeeper batsman and Broad to be Vice captain. Assume all reviews to be used quickly!

Now it feels like the Summer has started.
Jimmy opening the bowling at Lords in glorious sunshine whilst here in Devon it's tipping down. :)

Got this on the big screen at work whilst slowing marking some exams. As you said summer has started now, just having it on, having commentators at the ground on Sky all makes being at work much more tolerable. Strong sunshine in St Helens, hardly a cloud in the sky

Looks a good pitch this morning but the two oldens are bowling well with just a hint of swing.

It's great stuff, I've missed this.

Golden arm Joe having a whirl, I'm not totally convinced playing without a proper spinner is the way to go for England. Every Test team should have a spinner though how'd you squeeze one in without an all rounder is the question.

Be useful to have a decent spinner wouldn't it?

Because people are pathetic Bendy! Saving up tweets from when someone was a teenager to ‘expose’ them when the guy is making his England debut says far more about those Twatter losers than it does Ollie Robinson in my opinion. Just the sad world we find ourselves in now.

Can’t see that Robinson chap surviving this tbh, some of those tweets were pretty bad especially the one about Gary Speed.

Don't the ECB do any checks before dishing out caps to at least head things like this off?

A pretty crap day for England made even worse.
