Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
My take on West Brom's stance on Johnstone is, they believe he is worth keeping for one year, to get them back into the Premier League, which he might, but I ask, what is the point in them getting them back ?

Never rated Randolph ,even my blue nose mate said he was shocking at Birmingham.
Maybe a swap deal with WBA?
Now rhe euros are over we should see some action

Decent first choice championship GKToiletDuck wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:16 am Never rated Randolph ,even my blue nose mate said he was shocking at Birmingham.
Adequate backup prem GK
Whatever happens next he has had a decent career. International caps and playing for West Ham - dreamy!

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
Arguing that Johnstone is better than Randolph, or vice versa, is like arguing it's better to poop in your hand rather than on your foot, in my opinion.
Johnstone only got there because of a lack of options. There were only 7 England keepers with more than 10 appearances in the Premier League last season. Henderson and Pope were both injured but would have been preferred to Ramsdale and Johnstone for the summer otherwise. The other options with a number of appearances were Karl Darlow (who I think missed the end of the season so might have also been unavailable for the summer?), and Alex McCarthy.
Ramsdale and Johnstone were basically the only remaining English Premier League keepers available bar one, based on that.

Johnstone is a good keeper and is better than Randolph. I’m glad I can put and end to this debate and we shall now move on.

At least if it's hand you can walk somewhere to clean it off. Poop on your foot and you've either got to hop or clean the carpet/floor afterwards.
But if you're outside maybe foot is better, as you can wipe it on the floor without issue.
Either way, they're both crap.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
His story is actually quite amazing. He was a bit of a journeyman until 2013 when he landed at Birmingham. He arrived to us in 2015, and at one point there were press rumblings that after the Europa League and pre-season, that the club wanted to re-sign Green as second choice keeper. But, out of the blue, a rush of blood to the head from Adrian gave him several outings in a West Ham shirt, and a turned knee at international level from Shay Given saw him claim the Irish goalkeeper jersey.ironilunga wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:22 am Decent first choice championship GK

I think he really capitalised later in his career.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
Areola would have us sorted at GK for the next 6-8 years. He is better than most PL GKs and would be a fantastic signing. Perfect for us to push as a club. Fabs has been great but he picks up injuries and his attributes are now dipping year on year.

Lets put Randy into perspective. You don't seriously think he would be with us, if we had owners with some serious money, do you ?

Sorry didn't quite catch that, can you say it a bit louder? Maybe add a dozen exclamation marks at the end to ensure that your point is heard?larryberyl wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:53 am FAB HAS BEEN A GREAT SIGNING BUT TIME STANDS STILL FOR NO ONE. THIS IS HIS LAST FULL SEASON IF HE CAN MAKE IT !
Personally, I think Fab has one more season at the top with us as time marches on, been a brilliant signing though.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
Non-West Ham, but Steven Berghuis moving from Feyenoord to Ajax will be the most controversial transfer of the summer. The Feyenoord lot are already burning shirts bearing his name and number - it will be total havoc the next time Ajax face Feyenoord away (high risk, only home crowds allowed)

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2021
Randolph isn't a better keeper than Johnstone, come on man.funky chicken wrote: ↑Thu Jul 15, 2021 11:01 am To be fair that's not the best comparison as Randolph is a number 2. But if he did start week in week out for West Brom and was English, he probably would, yes. More by default as there's not an awful lot of English keepers to select anyway.
