Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham Utd: Match Thread
It's all about fitness, confidence and momentum, and trying out a few things, so another win in the bank and a cracking goal for our best attacking player is all good news. I thought Coventry had another adept game and Fornals looked good pulling the strings during our best spells. A good run out for Iron Mike and co too.
Without many of our first teamers it's hard to assess the defensive side of things, but without being too bad, nobody in that back line covered themselves in glory.

Benrahma’s looking like a little bull. Good to see he has been working hard to improve his level. Can’t see him getting shrugged off as much this season.

Re: ⚽ Brentford v West Ham Utd: Match Thread
Brentford certainly a stronger run-out than against Celtic
5 definite first teamers missing for us, Rice,Soucek, Coufal, Ogbonna & Bowen.
So about assessing the squad.
Diop definitely looks like his confidence has gone …poor positioning & ball flight judgment…..would certainly look to replace with stronger central defender.
Coventry squad player …not someone to push the starting 11.
Fornals & Bennie playing well with Lanzini looking fine on the ball.
Antonio not as menacing as last week ….we certainly need cover & help for him.
The rest fair runouts ….squad needs 3 more players added….central defender, defensive midfield & forward.
But certainly we look a lot fitter than we have done at this stage in previous pre seasons

Don't get the hate for Diop, he was fine and is a perfectly good CB for us. Cresswell basically gave him no cover all day on those crosses.
Lanzini is why we watch football. Really hope he has a good season. Him and Coventry in the middle would get steamrolled by better teams when defending but that's why we have Soucek and Rice.
Antonio had a knock first half and there was literally no one on the bench to bring on for him if he had to go off...two weekends before the season starts... This is getting careless by us.

I enjoyed the game. I thought Pablo and Benny looked good together, Coventry has some promise just needs a little more confidence, Diop had some good moments but for me he is just terrible in the air, and teams with a big front line will exploit that.

I've got no stats to back it up, but I feel we always seem to have a bad season after having a really good pre-season.

I didnt see the entire match, but from what I saw from the 65th minute, I did think Fab looked very assured and composed between the sticks. Apart from that shot which thumped against the post, which he was beaten all ends up but GK's get lucky sometimes and need that little bit of luck

I thought Diop had an ok-ish game but he keeps on misjudging those crosses. Those that say he can't judge the flight of a ball are correct, he does it time after time and I've seen absolutely no improvement in that side of his game. It's no coincidence that all the centre-backs we're looking at are dominant in the air.

I have seen it go every way: Terrible in preseason, good season. Good in preseason, terrible season. Terrible in preseason, terrible season. Good in preseason, good season.
I have come to the conclusion preseason means f*** all.

Hopefully Benny has now found his shooting boots in our colours.
His goal last season when he eventually scored definitely seemed to take the weight off his shoulders.
