Fab has done nothing to merit being dropped yet. This new guy looks like he will be great but no reason to humiliate our number one (who's also the best keeper we've had for a long time). Let areola have the domestic cups and when fab inevitably picks up an injury that's when the switch will happen.

I have a fear that we string Areola along all season and then try and sign Johnstone on a free. Don’t rate Johnstone personally.
You wouldn't throw Areola in straight away, when he'd be replacing our most consistent performer for the past five years.

I agree with everyone that he should be starting but I don't think it's a conspiracy that he isn't.

So you’re not expecting him to start tomorrow?

I have never had a problem with Fabs shot stopping ability and a couple yesterday were top drawer (again). However, crosses and command of his area is not his forte and his distribution is wanting. Im not sure if these are talents the new guy has, but if affirmative then that's a big plus for me.

Not saying we throw Areola in now Bill. I would, however, be interested if there is an obligation after a certain number of games that would ensure that we’re committed to Areola rather than ending up with Johnstone (as i don’t rate him) next summer.

In a funny kind of way, if there is some certainty about us signing him perm then showing loyalty to the keeper he’s ultimately going to take over from could come across positively to him.

Totally convinced he’s been given the cup games and fab the league and Europe, of course this changes if form / injuries dictate it.

Moyes is generally loyal to the bloke wearing the shirt

No, he will definitely start on Wednesday. But you seem to believe that he’s going to be our fa and league cup keeper this season full stop. He’s 100% been signed to take over fab at some point this season. All in my opinion of course.

I was quite surprised not to see Areola play in the Europa, particularly given it's likely we lose on Wednesday meaning no more games in the League Cup.

If that happens and Areola doesn't play in Europa whilst Fab keeps his place in the Prem, then Areola will only play 2 games for us in 2021.

He looked a bit nervous early, firstly with the corner he flapped at and then when he chose to punch when there wasn’t a Man U player within 5 yards. He settled down after that, but I don’t think it was a performance that added any further pressure to Fab’s starting spot.

Commanded his area mostly, apart from the unnecessary punch, and looked very athletic when called upon. His kicking was a bit Jaaskelainen though...

Debut cleansheet at Old Trafford. Not bad.

Am I right in thinking Randolph's debut was a clean sheet at Anfield?

Lad was class.

I like Fabianski, but it's time for him to Adrian the f*ck out of Jussi.

If you know what I mean...

Some good saves, kept a clean sheet. Looked a bit flappy at times.

Sounds like a young Fab

Seems much more agile, with the big man losing a step or two. Might be time to ease him in.

I still can't believe he's Filipino. I know he's French but Filipino parents. I know loads and loads of Pinoys and they usually never break 5'7".

I reckon his granddaddy may have been a Yank G.I., either white or black.
