Well done the players, Moyes, & his backroom staff. What a result.
I've waited decades to see our team play & look like this.
A great bunch of players that we can connect to, who give it their all. Committed, hardworking & never say die attitude. They represent our club with utter respect & do justice to all the WHU players & legends before them. I never wanted billionaires running our club, mercenaries on £180,000 per week not giving a f**k, I wanted a team a bit chucked together, a few bargains here, our youth team players excelling, some rough diamonds molded into Prem players, coached well & taking on the best. Done in that way the victories & success is all that bit sweeter. I love this team.
Savour this moment, as teams like these don't come around too often.

Only saw the extended highlights but it looked we more than held our own in the 90 minutes. All 5 penalties were superb with Dawson the pick of them.
Lanzini still has plenty to offer.
Massive congratulations to FJ. We drew 2 - 2 with Man City on the day my son was born. An Enner Valencia double.

Surprised at the animosity aimed towards us, to be honest.Up the Junction wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:51 amThe opposition view: Manchester City

I thought we played well, attacked when we could whilst remaining solid at the back, do they just expect teams to go toe to toe with their expensively assembled squad, and ultimately roll over for them?
Shame on you West Ham for not simply rolling over for City's super stars..
A fair bit of entitlement from some of the Citeh fans.
A few complimentary posts however, so there's still some good'ns amongst them.

What he said...30 years as a STH and this is the probably the most enjoyable time for me as a fan. Feels like everybody is now pulling in the same direction (including the board). This club feels UNITED.Cardiff here we come..... wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:34 am Well done the players, Moyes, & his backroom staff. What a result.

Most interesting thing in that OV is there's clearly some dissatisfaction towards De Bruyne creeping in.

There were fewer than seven fouls - that was a total dive in the last minute of injury time just outside our box - lightest of touches on his elbow and down he goes. seemed to me Man City moved the freekick back half-a-dozen yards too, to make it a better range for shooting perhaps.Westbourne Bill wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 9:55 am 7 fouls..that is a staggering stat. Literally fair play to MC.
Apart from that moment, I thought the ref had an excellent game - problem is, teams like that usually make those moments count.
[EDIT - removed a bit of disproven nonsense about penalty takers!]funky chicken wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 9:09 am So we’ve missed so many of our penalties since the turn of the year. And yet manage to score all 5 against Man City in a penalty shoot out. Can you get any more West Ham than that!?
I read here that Soucek used to take pens at Slavia.
Maybe it was a ploy that the oppo keeper couldn't have any preparation if we chose players that haven't taken pens before?

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd vs Manchester City: match thread
Did the City fans expect us to go toe-to-toe with them or something? Heh.
They had a more or less full strength team out bar one or two. We made wholesale changes.
I wanted out of this competition personally to concentrate on Europe and the league but beating both Manchester sides has been very satisfying, especially when reading some of the arrogant comments in the OV.
We might of played for penalties, who cares? We got done by Brentford in a similar way a few weeks ago. It won’t go down in history how we played.
Hoping we get Spurs away in the next round now. Must admit I haven’t done a CC game out of the two we’ve had this season. I guess if I did the next round it’d make me a glory hunter. So be it.

More players from the starting XI took one than didn’t! Cresswell, Bowen and BenrhamaCrossd_Hammrs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 12:13 pm
Did you notice none of the regular first XI took one though? - except Cresswell. (EDIT Oh and Benrahma, for the last kick!)
He and Dawson were surprises - I'd remarked to wife, while we were guessing who the takers would be, that I'm surprised Cresswell doesn't take pens as he takes all other dead balls, then I thought he's ,aybe too obvious and not confident enough.

COuldnt make the game as have Noravirus (or something similar) so watched on a dodgy stream
Why was the camera for the penalties behind the goal? That is a terrible angle to view from
Much better to have the camera behind the penalty taker like they usually do

I also recall watching us lose one at the Boleyn to Sheffield United when they were in League 1 (?). We had Ravel Morrison and Diego Poyet in the team that day. League Cup I assume.irving boleyn wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 11:03 am Was that our first Shoot Out since the Final against Liverpool?

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd vs Manchester City: match thread
What a bizarre opposition view!
It felt like I was reading Tottenham or Man Utd for the first half, then suddenly it changed to level headed wholesomeness.
First half read like entitled toddlers throwing their toys and excused out the pram, 'mickey mouse cup', 'playing our reserves', 'battered them', 'their cup final'.
Then all of a sudden a stream of posts explaining that their first 11 was worth over £300 million, West Ham defended brilliantly, egging us on to go an win it, etc.
A real 50/50 split of fans they seem to have, almost like you can see the divide between old school and Oil Money Fans.
