I personally have never understood the fuss over him! He’s a solid goalkeeper. But world class? Not even close!

He’s another keeper that looks better than he is just because he’s behind a solid 3 man defence. Stick him in our team and you’d see he’s no better than Fabianski. And Fabianski hasn’t exactly been that convincing this season!

That said, the left side was difficult to defend, with Johnson being easily beaten a few times. (Hope he didn't get as dug out for that the way Arthur did v Brighton). Fingers crossed his and Zouma's injuries aren't too bad.
Lanzini was overdue a start, and another great effort - what a penalty!
That's not right about the Zouma injury, Diop plays no part.

Lukaku is being marked by Zouma, the ball is played between him and Dawson Just a good pass from Rudiger and, until he pulls up, good defending from Zouma.

The 'beef' between Lanzini & James goes back a loooong way.

Reece James is Sid James great Grandson. Bizarrely Manuel Lanzini is the grandson of a woman who was the result of a fling Charles Hawtrey had when with a Milkmaid he was working as a vaquero on an Argentinean ranch back in the early 1930's.

During the filming of Carry On Up The Khyber James & Hawtrey had a straightener on the cobbles over Babs Windsor who had been dating both of them. Hawtrey knocked out two of James's teeth & there's been bad blood between the families ever since.

As Lanzini ran up to take the penalty Reece James screamed at him "Your great grandfather was a ******* **** ***** & a ********** ***** *******". Understandably this upset Manual & that's why he gave James that little shove after he scored.

Has he said that?(genuine question)
I know he's said he was surprised to see it go in but that's not the same.

I think he saw no other reasonable option so took a punt

Yes, he was. He lived in Deal, Kent for much of his later life and there are many stories circulating around of his time there.
I suppose he could have been 'straight' or AC/DC in his younger days?

I didn’t want to post until today in case VAR found some reason to change the result. I have checked and they did not. I watched MOTD again this morning. The result didn’t change. I just checked Sky website. The result is unchanged there too.

Guys, it’s documented and therefore fact…….. we beat the European champions!

So what’s the plan if it turns out that Zouma , Johnson (and Cresswell) have, heaven forbid, long term injuries?

Hope that knowing your dad was watching over that win today gives you some solace

It very much does, along with the kind messages from fellow kumbers ..... thanks all :fist:

He used to read this forum, though never posted, but would have loved that sweet victory yesterday.

We live in something of a Chelsea stronghold, the in-laws are all of that persuasion so for us it’s always a big game. Shame it’s come at such a cost with injuries.

On reflection, it would have been lovely to roll out David Martin to play up front for the last 30 seconds ... complete shithousery!
