Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
We won't break our transfer record on a striker, under Moyes, and especially not in January.
As for Digne, not really fussed either way to be honest, not a big enough upgrade on Cresswell to warrant the fee or the wages for me.
If Cresswell is nearly fit, then it's best we wait until Summer, to look for a long term, younger replacement,
and with Johnson filling in so well, our focus and finances should be on a CB and a ST.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Coutinho in from Barcelona and Digne after his falling out at Everton. I hope Gerrard has good control of the dressing room at Villa. A lot of egos in that squad.
Not really bothered about Digne. Not worth the fee and wages. And wasn’t impressed with his falling out at Everton. Not entirely convinced he’s much of an improvement on Cresswell either.
My list is still unchanged for this window. A left sided defender and another attacker please Mr. Moyes.

I do rate Gerrard and he has some good players there. Could be dangerous if it all clicks.funky chicken wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:25 pm Coutinho in from Barcelona and Digne after his falling out at Everton. I hope Gerrard has good control of the dressing room at Villa.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I don’t know how serious we are. I think Moyes would prefer to use Cress and Johnson till the end of the season if he can. But someone who is a left sided centre half with the ability to play left back would be very useful. And if he could chip in with ten goals a season and drive the coach it would be perfect.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:06 pm Is that reliable? Why would he choose Villa? And they already have Targett, it's hardly a desperate position for them.

Could be an utter car crash too if he doesn’t control all those egos.bonzosbeard wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:29 pm I do rate Gerrard and he has some good players there. Could be dangerous if it all clicks.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I'm guessing Aston Villa is his only option instead of preferred option? Chelsea not interested and unlikely we'll pay out that much for that position with CB and forward more important.
Aston Villa are absolutely ****. So overrated. 13th in the league, perform poorly on stats. Things like Martinez being made out to be Buffon for a few good saves, when he's made a mistake or let in easy goals almost everytime we've played them. Another team who will keep throwing money around and still be mediocre, bit like Everton really, so he's sort of going sideways.

Some good players, but both are in their forties and in the fictional world will probably try to have a fight with him during a game

Coutinho, who is notoriously shy, and introverted will no doubt be the ringleader..

I will be as delighted as the rest of you if Villa continue to underperformed.

Poor man's Bowen.El brooko79 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 6:04 pm In the piece before the Leeds game, Moyes said this club has tried to spend big before and it didn't work.
That we need to progress in smaller steps - or words to those effect..
But I'll have a go anyway - Timo Werner, with Broja going back to Chelsea.
Salary could be a major problem.

Maybe but were it ever to happen Werner from the left, Bowen the right and Antonio through the middle would be frightening pace/physicality wise.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Glad that we are not signing Digne. I had hoped that we had got away from this type of signing - a big name player that had not quite cut it elsewhere and was looking for one last big contract. I'm not sure how it would have worked when both he and Cresswell were fully fit.
We need a youngish understudy for Cresswell (such as Hickey) or a versatile player who can play more than one position, so they will get plenty of game time. The outstanding option here would be Lloyd Kelly. We should show some real intent and ambition and go and get him. I understand that Bournemouth won't want to lose him as he's their captain and best player, but we must be able to buy players that teams don't want to sell. I seem to remember that Southampton weren't over keen on selling Van Dyk and Villa wanted to keep Grealish. Also Kelly only has 18 months left on his contract.
Cabral seems to be the best striker option that has been suggested.

The lad Johnson looks a talent at Forest. A young Jesse Lingard, you could say
