Villa must still have a bit of money sloshing about. Wealthy owners and maybe a bit of Grealish money left over.

Digne would of been a great signing but our interest couldn’t of really been concrete. Either that or we balked at his wage demands.

I think it’s a shame we always end up gambling a couple of games when we know we are desperate for a striker and defender. I said in the summer I wasn’t overwhelmed with our dealings and feel we could definitely have been closer to 3rd in the league now had we not been left reliant on Antonio and Arthur. I accept losing Ogbonna and zouma and Cresswell was desperately unlucky but we were lucky last season with injuries. It does however seem a little crazy to think we have employed someone to work for West Ham and their job is literally to compile lists of players that may be suitable. And nothing (so far) has come of it. There is literally loads of posters who do that on here for absolutely nothing!

Or we had no interest at all.
IMHO, we have other much more pressing priorities.

At least the manager, Liam Manning, will know him well from.coaching the player at West Ham.

I really like the idea of getting Hickey as an understudy for cress if he’s available. He’s not your average promising young player who simply has great skill and energy. His managers have commented that his maturity and reading of the game are 7 years ahead of his age, and he’s also apparently pretty reserved with his head screwed on straight.

That would make him perfect for us.... nearly 30....!

True but it all depends on the severity of Cresswell’s injury I suppose.

Maybe Digne was touted around a few clubs, and he’s probably a player who ticks a few boxes for Moyes. But if his wages are too high we were out and maybe that was the case with Chelsea.

Good luck to Villa as him and Coutinho (albeit a loan) must cost them a bit on wages. And Gerrard hasn’t been in the management game that long has he, could be a slightly naive move throwing money about but we will see.

Personally I never thought Digne was coming or we were that interested, we have bigger priorities that need fixing and dropping 25m was a non starter

Obviously Salah is miles ahead of everyone, but some people are grossly underrating the levels our lot are performing at.
It's been a common theme on here for sometime. 'Benrahma's crap', 'Antonio's not a striker', 'Average player X, Y, Z would walk in to our team' (Matty Cash and John McGinn???).

It's the defense that needs upgrading. It goes without saying Antonio needs a body to share the load a bit but beyond that it's really hard to see where we can improve at the forward end of the pitch.

I don't want Tarkowski purely because Ironing Board wangs on about him so much.

The move to the continent has been the making of Cullen.

The quoted price at the time of his sale was an absolute steal.

Now that I'm finally logged in, can I be the first to say that Zagadou is the player we need to push pineapple and grind coffee.

EDIT: when I say 'first', I obviously mean fifth or sixth.

My mate in Lisbon (no, not Warp) says there are reports in the local press that lots of English clubs are sniffing around Goncalo Ignacio, 20 year old centre back with a left foot like a wand. Just to make it properly WHU-related, he said that Ignacio is like Declan Rice but better. Based on his two minute Youtube highlight reel, I'm in.

He does remind me of Rice......

This sort of transfer really interests me.
20 years old, first choice player for Sporting - starts all available games for them in the CL and domestic. U21 destined as a senior international.

Do we have the pull to be a bigger fish for players like that?

C&H claiming Zouma would have been an outside chance to make the squad against Norwich if he didn't have covid.

I understand what you're saying but Cresswell is the weakest defender in our first choice defence. And our defence lets in too many goals. Those two things make him the obvious candidate in the starting XI to be upgraded.

....despite his public reputation reaching Roberto Carlos levels of esteem over the last month.
