Seriously though, I've just managed to login after a week and having had so many things I wanted to say, it now feels I have stage-fright, and can't think of anything to say.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Have made the point on domestic loans to others earlier in the thread so fully aware.ZazaPenaltyRunup wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:39 am No reason why we'd return Areola as we can have as many non-domestic loans as we please each year.
The "2 loans per club" is only between domestic clubs. We could loan 11 players from PSG within the rules.
This comes up every few pages – I'd wager it's less likely to get another loan off PSG if we weren't going to buy Areola as we've wasted their time on a player they want the money for.
Was more from a point Bubbs and I made a while back about whether PSG would be happy for us to keep utilising them and take two players from them (whilst they subsidise the wages).
I know we use them as a standard threat when trying to buy players but to loan a full eleven from them may be slightly taking the piss, lol.
Ps although I suspect Sullivan would love that

Ah I suppose you’re right actually, if we equate that type of earning yourself a free kick with the Tom Daley stuff we see from Salah, Vardy and co.LeonRivers wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:07 am He’s actually our most prolific diver
The only player ever to have dived twice in a West Ham shirt.
Maybe a discussion for another thread, but I can’t let that one go by unchecked.
If that’s the case, I’d probably say Bowen is the most prolific.
Anyway, better stop talking about this as we’ve got some in here losing their minds that we aren’t talking about singing French 19 year olds called Etikikikitike instead!
Also would have replied to this sooner but the site is doing its level best to keep me out.

My apologies – I'm in the same boat where I'd like to get the loan rules pinned to every pagehammer1975 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 10:46 am Have made the point on domestic loans to others earlier in the thread so fully aware.

I imagine PSG probably want to minimise our (DS) ability to take them for mugs. If you lent a mate £100 you'd want a bit of proof he's going to pay you back before you lend him another hundred. Except it's players for millions and it's not your mate, it's the tight-fisted goblin who has previous.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Finally logged in and I can stop lurking
Heres my quick recap...
Lingard to happen last week of the window.
Cabango no thanks.
Hugo Ekiteke yes please.
Yes to any of the French centre backs were linked with and yes to Lee Buchanan especially as its likely to be super cheap.
As for Rice vs Noble. Different leadership styles but both offer plenty.

Totally agree, it's a crying shame.ironilunga wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 8:18 pm BTW, aged 29 what a waste of a precious year of professional football when you are at your peak and after a fantastic loan with us!
I have no doubt that in 10 years time, when Jesse is long retired, that he will look back at this past year with complete regret that he didn't build on the momentum he created last season. He will never get this time back

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Also...
If Newcastle stay up they will be buying wholesale and will be a much better proposition then now and we will be competing for Long term players like Buchanan, Ekiteke, Lloyd and the other linked french centre backs.
If we can we should secure their services now and if required loan them back to their home clubs for the season if it helps to secure the deal.
Really good news around Cresswell and Zoumas return dates all of which will no doubt affect Moyes decision making.

Newcastle won't be staying up.
You can't buy your way out of trouble, if players don't want to join, which would appear to be the case.

This window is a test of Sullivans ambitions this is 3rd time in the space of a few years we have been in a fantastic position for the top 4 and Champions League which was part of Sullivans 10 point plan and everytime the poison dwarf fails to put in money to take us over the line.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Also when you need to shore up a leaking defence and you have Eddie Howe its not going to end well he's record in the transfer market is horrible you can sign a whole new team but you need to get them to gel as a unit
Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Reports in Russia suggest that West Ham are extremely keen on the situation of Golovin at Monaco.
Quality player, always the best running and work rate stats in Russia and then in France. Plays anywhere in the attack or midfield, only problem is injury prone and a bit of a feisty character, doubt English refs and players will be happy with his antics.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
After the performace of Vlasic against leeds, I'm agreed on Lingard. The boat has sailed for me, let Everton or Newcastle give him the massive 4-5 year contract. Could probably bring in all three of Kelly, Lewis Potter, Brennan Johnson for what you'd be paying him.
How much would them three cost?
Lewis potter and Brennan Johnson looked like two real talents over the weekend

Maybe he doesn't care? Probably not going to be in the WC squad, getting paid shedloads, staying local to home for another year...we always assume players want what we would, but maybe some don'tBobbyMooreLower wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:14 am Totally agree, it's a crying shame.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I think I've slowly got myself to understand the David Moyes mindset when it comes to transfer windows, at least the winter one but probably summer too.sendô wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 8:51 am To be honest I get the feeling any "underinvestment" might be as much due to Moyes as GSB, given his preference to only sign players who he has pre approved.
It's not necessarily a bad thing. It's probably better to sign noone than the wrong player on £100k p/w for 4 years.
In theory, yes, you can sign someone on 1 January. However, if you do that, you could use up all of your budget on a position that seems like a priority, then get hit by 2-3 injuries to key players off the back of the busy Christmas period and not be able to remedy it. If you wait, not only do you know who in the squad is fit as the window closes, but you have an extra month of information on when your injured players are coming back. The reports coming out suggest that expected return dates for Zouma and Cresswell have improved in the last few weeks, which means you no longer risk overpaying on a 50yo left-back from Everton or splash £10m on a Burnley CB who's available for free in 6 months.
Preumably you also give yourself the longest time possible to tempt clubs to sell you your #1 choice of player (especially with a lot of clubs around Europe under serious financial pressure) rather than rush into getting the player that's 3 or 4 on your list and end up regretting it later.
In short, I think Moyes mainly waits because he wants the most possible information about what squad he has available for the remainder of the season, plus is very reluctant to go for short-term fixes with long-term financial consequences.
Not gonna lie, I'm a fan, it's not my money, and I'd still rather we splashed £100m on 4 shiny new players for the sheer excitement of it, but I'm starting to understand why Moyes operates the way he does. And with the notable exception of not replacing Haller with *anyone*, which I think has cost us games and arguably a Champions League position last year, I think that most of the time the "wait and see" approach is vindicated, especially when viewed over the longer term.
