As I often say you’re only as good as the team around you and Brentford are the epitome of an inconsistent, scrappy, but having-a-right-go-at-it, newly promoted side. I think they’re having a decent season with no real damage to Toney’s rep.

He’d be good in our team with our manager.
I hope they get relegated, and Toney doesn't get a move back to the Prem.

The most cheating, cynical, snide side I've seen us play against in years, possibly ever. Completely shattered any illusions I might have had about them being a charming, football playing side. Think the ball was in play for 41 minutes. Lowest in any game this season.

Not necessarily next season, remembering that its a backup striker, a 33/34 year old Antonio would likely be fine in that role. It's kicking the can down the road a bit but not every purchase can be an upgrade and someone short of 25, otherwise we'll be paying 40m or above for every position in the next year or 3.

I think we’ve played a few sides like that this year. A sign of our massiveness maybe?

I'm not convinced by Traore.

Runs really, really fast but is inconsistent and often lacks end product. His stats aren't great either.

He doesn't strike me as a Moyes type player at all.

He's definitely the sort of player Sullivan would go for though.

Traore would be a great signing if we were Newham and Essex Beagles athletic club. He's a glorified 100 Meter sprinter with terrible stats.

West ham move for Traore.
If Moyes can convert him ala Antonio then fair enough. Not convinced, mind.

They have Lukaku and Werner, hardly best of the best.

No way are they selling a 20 year old who is looking that good.
Maybe a few loans but they will wait.

Thoughts on Traore operating as a RWB with 3 at the back?

Usain Bolt would be cheaper than Traore and probably offer roughly the same quality.

Tony had a good start but it seems teams have worked him out now.

It’s football insider, so probably a load of *****.

If true though, I wonder if we are calling Spurs’ bluff. They talk to our target Lingard, we talk to their target Traore.

Could we not let Spurs sign Traore and then move for Doherty from them if we really want a RWB?

Unless, of course, our intention is to convert him to be an Antonio-esque forward. Which could work.

I don't know about Traore.

Obviously his poor stats say that he's not the right man for us. But... He was looking pretty good under Nuno and he brings chaos. I like chaos. Could playing him as a striker be the making of him? Can Moyes do something with him? He has plenty of the raw materials and I'm sure no defender likes playing against him.

I'm staying open minded on this one.

I want to see Antonio go all out for 45 mins to 60 mins and when the opposition defenders are smashed to bits and knackered we substitute on Traore… battered…
Or maybe Antonio and Traore up front together… that would be the most ridiculous front pairing ever.

Huge deal for a good but not great player.

According to TrasnferMarkt they've spent close to 350m since being back in the premier league with the Digne signing.

Why would we even think of another right sided defender FB or WB given the current players there compared to the left? If we were interested in the likes of Doherty we lose nothing extending Fredericks instead (indeed we save a transfer fee).

As for Traore I have never got the love or the idea he could be converted to a striker in the way Arnie and Antonio were. That said if Moyes thinks he can then he has the history. His big assets, pace and ball carrying at pace, are what we are generally missing but he is so poor with back to goal and final product which are vital for the striker we need when we play a lot on the counter, getting a ball to stick is vital as is then providing passes and ultimately finishes.

Not seeing how he'd be a fit for us and why we are after him, but IF it is a Moyes pick then I'm sure he does see something and will likely get the best out of him. Fingers crossed.

Lovejoy wrote: Wed Jan 12, 2022 7:14 am Don’t need a striker? Ridiculous, we needed a Forward when Haller was here, could argue we now need 2. But we’ve needed at least one for 18 months. Yeah results on a whole have been great can’t argue that but it’s beyond dumbfounded We haven’t sorted it within the last 3 windows. Failure to do so this window again will be a again a miserable failure from the management team.
We don't need a striker right now. Antonio, Bowen and Yarmolenko can play the traditional number 9 and none of those are strikers.

When Yarmolenko leaves in the summer it will free up wages and space to get another body in there. Likely an upgrade on Antonio.

Moyes hardly ever rotates his team. If Haller was still here how many games would he have got this season? The cups and a sub for Antonio in the league with 10 mins to go.

I don't know what you expect. 100 Mill on Lukaku to push Antonio to the bench? Loan for Origi for him to play the cups and tail end of league matches?

You want a striker just for the sake of it. A striker to rotate with Antonio every now and again and to sit on the bench. A role Yarmolenko does just fine.
