Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Has anybody looked at Alese's goal of the month on the West Ham web site?
Can't see Diop doing that. Rice or Striker replacement??

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Familiar worries from 12 months ago.
Moyes doesn't see a "striker" as much he sees an "attacker who can score or assist". Just as he saw Lingard as an alternative to a striker last year, he may well do the same if he can't get a striker he really likes.
Can't say I blame him. We are in the "middle" phase of his project and there are many positions we can improve on. My guess is Moyes will be opportunistic and improve where he sees value. As it is, we have a lot of goals in our front 4, even not counting Soucek, who has played a more withdrawn role this season. Based on the last few games alone, his head will mainly be on how to concede less. There is just as much chance that Zouma or Cresswell may break down (again) as Antonio for the remains of the season.
I think the rumours that Moyes hasn't made up his mind may well be true. I don't see that as a weakness though. In a situation of limited resource and lots of alternatives to make improvements, a degree of fluidity in mindset is a good thing.
Thus I think he will wait and see where the value lies before he acts. That's the way he has always worked. Won't surprise me one bit if he strengthens CB, adds another attacking midfielder (to replace Yamo) and loans a youngster like Hlozek or a LB. As said before, his mindset is to build for 2-3 years out, incrementally. He'd be reluctant to let short term expediency affect long term vision. That's why he is a good builder.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Let me guess, "you heard"
Premier League players can agree pre-contracts with any club in England, but only up to one month before the expiry of their current deals (effectively meaning pre-contracts can only be agreed at the end of a season).
More of your rumours and I've heards that are complete hogwash.
Then after going on like you know we set an asking price of £20m..
Keep going! Maybe you'll get something right!

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I completely get the idea that when strengthening the first team we may look at a Lingard type as an alternative to a striker as they can provide goals and assists, however i feel we may have reached a point where adding another of this type may not provide as good returns. I think we really need a striker, a middle of the front line option (doesn't need to be first choice).
I've said it a few times but we need to be able to throw an extra striker on when we are chasing a game in the last 10 mins. I'm thinking of the wolves or Burnley games where our final subs were Yarmo and Fornals respectively, when it would have been great to have had a reserve CF to throw on.
I'm hoping that Newman is providing some cheap options for Moyes to consider.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
There's no way Moyes was going to sign Digne for 25M, big wages, and a question mark over character and professionalism.
He'd rather blow 30M on Kelly. If Bournemouth doesn't sell, then he will wait. Meanwhile, he'd loan Dialo or something.
Personally, I think there will be one big purchase (25M+) and a couple "value buys or loans". Who might the big money be spent on?
Another CB would be my guess.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
We can't sign Traore. I've got a Wolves supporting mate who I've given pelters for ages now about how terrible he is, it's only become worse with this perfect season so far (big fat zero for goals and assists).
The reverse ferret I have to perform once Moyes gets his healing hands on him will be one for the ages!!

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Suggesting that Adama could be converted into a striker like Antonio is insulting to Antonio.
In the PL in 15/16 Antonio got 8 goals and 4 assists in 26 games. The following season he got 9 goals and 6 assists in 29 games. I used these seasons as he wasn’t a striker and was a similar age to Adama now who as we all know has pathetically bad end product.
I get some of the argument’s for signing him e.g. it would be funny or to bring him on the wing late on like Wolves are currently but it would be a football miracle if Adama somehow became a Premier League level centre forward

Good player, but a lot of money for a lad approaching his 30s, considering the prices paid for Zouma and Guehi in the summer.

Well, isn't our way to put in an insulting offer, at least about £10m beneath the clubs valuation ?I am Legend wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 2:07 pm If Moyes wants Traore then I want him
He's earnt 100% benefit of doubt over signings since he's been manager.
For now.

It's a shame we only wanted the 1 CB in the Summer, as we could've tried to double deal with them.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Can I suggest, for those of you that haven't, to go onto UtJ's two special transfer sites. One I think is called Recruitment Special and the other is done by those two young knowledgeable guys who do the pod casts.
Bloody brilliant analysis on potential players for us based on real stats rather than the rubbish from twitter etc. etc. This thread gives me a laugh more than information, if you want facts go there.
