Not that I believe this as we were supposed to have signed him in the summer too where it was also said to be a done deal.... but i'm sure Moyes has said before that he's happy to have a sprinkling of experience amongst the younger players. I think he's also said in the past that he prefers older defenders.
I never saw it reported as a done deal, but perhaps I missed that. Just passing on reports here from a reliable source. Can’t lose at that price!

De Telegraaf (most credible paper here) saying Nico Tagliafico to WHU from Ajax a done deal, only personal terms to be agreed, €12m. Absolute bargain if true, good LB, Argie international. My only doubt might be about his temperament, not sure what English refs are going to make of him
He sounds like a good loan option.
When I was looking at his stats last week Owen Wijndal looks a better long term prospects and the AZ technical director said this. He only has 18 months on his contract so worth a sensible bid:
Wijndal
Huiberts was able to report developments regarding the longer retention of captain Owen Wijndal. Negotiations are progressing, he said. "We know Owen's wishes about a possible transfer, if a good club comes for him. But we also know that he will not just leave AZ for the first club. If we come to an agreement on a new contract, then it makes sense that we think along with him if there is still a great opportunity for him in the future." Wijndal's current contract runs until mid-2023.

As quoted on Wikipedia "He is noted for his "lung-busting stamina, excellent technique and continuous enterprise". Sounds like the typical player that Moyes likes.

He may have been mistaken for the exact same article last summer. Other than that I can't find any article on it.
It's weird for that reason, but considering it's Amsterdhammer reporting it, I would assume he's hearing about it as if it's newer.
If the link in the Summer was genuine, then it wouldn't surprise me. Moyes being as particular about players as he is, doubt a few months would change his opinion.

I wish someone would buy Sam Johnstone from west brom this window….just so that I don’t need to keep reading that we’re favourites for him for the next five months.

Are you able to post a link?
I can’t find a mention of West Ham on De Telegraaf website since the 7th of January.... and that was a reference to Javier Hernandez of all people!
The Wood deal to Newcastle is interesting. I’m not sure too many clubs would pay more than £5/£6 million for players of similar age and similar prowess. You’d have to factor in that financial muscle to weaken a rival is somewhere in the mindset, as there are undoubtedly cheaper options that would be more prolific.
I’m not disbelieving amsterhammer but last thing I can find about Tagliafico is telegraaf’s man Mike Verweij saying that Ajax selling him this month is out of the question. This same guy was the one that made it sound certain we were signing him in the summer though iirc.
Anyway I wanted him then and i’d happily take him now, I think he’d be a fan favourite here
Tagliafico would be a huge upgrade on Masuaku and probably Cresswell, although that seems a little unfair to poor Cresswell.
That said, signing a credible left-back gives us the option of Cresswell at LCB, which might be a career-prolonging move for him. Definitely don't want to see him go anywhere!
Chris Wood apparently as surprised as everyone else: "I knew the clause was sitting there but I don’t think anyone ever thought it would ever be triggered."

Was Wood obliged to accept the transfer once the clause was triggered?
