Re: Sonny Perkins
Perkins has only recently moved up to playing striker, was a midfielder before. Started the season with a hat trick for the u18s, has stepped up to the u23s and scored. Also scored for Eng u19s.
I know there was a lot of talk about Odubeko but I think we have more promising options coming through. Perkins, Nevers, Swyer all offer more in terms of all round game imho. Odubeku scores goals at youth level, but as he tries to move up, Im not sure that will be enough. Struggled a bit on loan at Huddersfield so far this season. Not writing him off, but he has a lot of work to do I think. I like the look of Nevers, but already he seems to miss quite a bit of football with injuries.
We also have Mubama in the U18s, scoring goals this season but not seen him so cannot comment.

Re: Sonny Perkins
we have youngsters including perkins coming through but they are at least a uear away from the first team squad . lets not overhype them up.
we may be surprised by a quick developer but right now perkins isnt ready. it must not stop us signing a striker in january as antonio needs competition and is currently off form. how good to have an alternative !

Of course, striker should be a priority in Jan.hammerman11 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 5:32 pmwe have youngsters including perkins coming through but they are at least a uear away from the first team squad . lets not overhype them up.

Our departing (or departed?) U23's manager was bigging up Oko-Flex as an outstanding finisher and destined for bigger things

Re: Sonny Perkins
Yep, he's the one. I'm actually surprised he's not been on the bench much this season as he seemed to feature quite heavily in pre-season
Re: Sonny Perkins
Ill [probably end up looking stupid here, and he becomes a superstar (hopefully).....but Im not totally convinced yet. I like Chesters more. I have a feeling Oko Flex may become the next Marcus Browne/Nathan HollandBurnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 9:01 amYep, he's the one. Re: Sonny Perkins
shows how desperate we are when a 17 year old gets on . he may be good in a few years but we need an alternative to antonio now or else our progress will be severely stunted. we have a chance to step up again on last season but perkins, tarmolenko, masuaka are not good enough

Re: Sonny Perkins
Wouldn't surprise me if he was sent on in part to point out how little depth we have. Would have been interesting if he'd scored, Sully would have said that was it, no need for a new striker this window.

Mate, you've been talking about young players all the time. Now one gets a few minutes in a game and he isn't good enough?hammerman11 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 9:54 amshows how desperate we are when a 17 year old gets on . he may be good in a few years but we need an alternative to antonio now or else our progress will be severely stunted. we have a chance to step up again on last season but perkins, tarmolenko, masuaka are not good enough

Re: Sonny Perkins
I love new players coming through but when you have a knackered antonio and our only option is an untried 17 year old then something is not right.
if we had a second striker to come on then of course bring perkins on in some games . a game like yesterday and even norwich showed that antonio is knackered and underperforming. he needs a rest but we have nothing else .
how good would it have been to bring on traore for the last 30 mins and even starting him against norwich.
perkins is a few years away from being ready. the one I wanted to see given a chance is longello, surely hes better than masuaka at left back !

Re: Sonny Perkins
I don't disagree there and I doubt he is good enough yet. When he played against Zagreb, I thought he showed very little, but if you want young players coming through, the only way they can do so is with minutes. At 2-3 against Leeds, he's probably not the option to have, however, Leeds had injuries to Forshaw and Firpo and they brought on Lewis Bate and Hjelde. So young players were their option too. They were just better than us.

Re: Sonny Perkins
Personally I think Oko-Flex is more first-team ready and I'm surprised Perkins came on ahead of him yesterday

Re: Sonny Perkins
And he’s had more first team experience when at Celtic. It was tough on Perkins as we had burnout by the time he came on. However, I cannot help but think what if that final chance had fallen to him? He could have cemented his squad place.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:18 amPersonally I think Oko-Flex is more first-team ready and I'm surprised Perkins came on ahead of him yesterday

Re: Sonny Perkins
I wonder if Moyes bringing a 17 year old Perkins on wasn't a hint to certain people of the urgency of signing an alternative to Antonio? Is there a player identified in the background that we do not know about that has a high price tag that some people are not keen on paying for?
I may be adding 2 and 2 and getting 5, but did Perkins even touch the ball?

Re: Sonny Perkins
Totally agree with this. Diop for Perkins smacked of a message being sent to the board that a) Diop is not good enough, and b) our cover for Antonio is not good enough. With just two full weeks left in this window, it certainly felt like Moyes was making a point.sendô wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 10:45 amI wonder if Moyes bringing a 17 year old Perkins on wasn't a hint to certain people of the urgency of signing an alternative to Antonio? Good to see Perkins get some minutes, felt for him a bit as it wasn't the best time to be thrown in to Premier League life.
