It's funny, I'd actually find that a really annoying window if we signed those three. Not because they're bad but I don't think they'd make a blind bit of difference to the rest of our season.

I really want us to populate each position with two good immediately interchangeable options (or at least get as close to that as we can) before going for the 'one for the future' route. It feels like we're maybe only two windows away from getting there.

i.e. I'm team 'sign 28 year olds'. For the time being.
A couple starter-capable players are probably most needed, although if (Forest's)Johnson/Cabral and Phillips/Szalai came in, you might get two who are capable of making a difference and being long term options, which I guess is where the time is being taken. Could probably rush two over the line if needed, guessing that's what happens with end of the window moves.

I didn’t say there was a list of successes, I intimated you’re a moron if you instantly write someone off because of where they currently play. Pretty sure if we’d operated on that model then Lanzini wouldn’t be plying his trade for us.
Put Fernabache in the Championship and they would likely go close to winning it so no Championship players either so that is Cresswell, Bowen, Antonio, Benrahma and numerous others out as well.

It seems only an Antonio clone will do.
Hoping I’m proved wrong in the next few weeks.
Personally I think that's a good thing. We thrive with Antonio up front, and getting someone who can essentially play the same style, if not necessarily as well immediately, is key to keeping the chemistry of the front line.

As we've seen, this team is much less effective with the 'wrong' type of striker. We need someone who will be replicating a lot of what Antonio does.

I'll buy this "leaks have stopped" stuff when we sign a player out of the blue nobody expected. Until then, i'm pretty sure it's as similar as it ever was except Sullivan appears to have shut up. Moyes seems to wait until the end of the window to do business so we'll see.

We could sign Hlozek, Carvalho and Buchanan tomorrow and none would play in our only remaining premier league match of the window. People would be happy but it would make no difference to waiting a week
That may be true or it may focus the minds of a few players that need the competition.

25m for Ward Prowse? Absolute no chance. Worth double that. And he would get a better side than us if he was available.
A better side than us at the moment would be Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea. If Ward-Prowse is on that level, it seems odd to me that he's reached the age of 27 without any big bids going in for him, especially from those sides. (Or at least, endless speculation a la Rice).

Not saying he isn't, just that it's odd.

Was chatting to my Spurs 'mate' a short while ago (I know! I know!). He was saying all the Spurs forums are in meltdown from fans complaining that the board don't seem to be backing Conte with glossy new signings this window.

I think the frustration must be universal across most PL clubs who desperately need players at the moment. It suggests it really is very, very difficult to pick up the required quality in January. Clubs just aren't willing to let good players leave.

Unless you're Villa and happy to put absolute premium on players in their late 20s.

people talking about Hlozek. That would be the same guy that didn't do much more than Kral at the last championships?

Adam Hložek | Czech Republic | UEFA EURO 2020
Key stats ; 4. Matches played ; 76. Minutes played. 19 avg. per match ; 0. Goals ; 1. Total attempts. 0.25 avg. per match ; 0. Assists.

Obviously a world beater

I'm half expecting someone to be sent to Sparta on loan, if we are going to take some of their best prospects in the years ahead, like Hozlek it wouldn't surprise me if someone is sent so that their fans see a benefit first, but who might that be?

76 minutes. Not even in one game for a young player. So you're dismissing him based on that and the fact Kral hasn't played here?

Established West Ham players Bowen and Antonio both didn't make a squad. Hlozek is 19, give him a chance.

Do you think they would make the Czech squads?

He isn't just a youth player we can test out, we have to buy him.
Half this board were going nuts about Sima last transfer window, he can't even get in the Stoke team.

Edit: think I miss-understood your point after seeing the context

We need a LB, CB and Forward that are capable of benching Cresswell, Ogbonna and Antonio in our best 11. That the inly way we’ll improve, the Antonio replacement will be the hardest part where we will most likely have to compromise.

The only ‘squad’ players I want us to sign will be to replace Yarmalenko and Kral this summer, and ideally they’d be young with potential.

We need a striker obviously but signing a bang average one and then playing them in the cup for example could just be pointless and cost us if they’re the usual Sully punt

The crazy thing about West Ham and Spurs is this idea of having only one striker in the club so everyone spends the season terrified, one injury away from the the whole thing being a write off.

I’m sure both clubs must say to their respective managers, well West Ham do it or Tottenham do it, so just crack on. Both Antonio and Kane often look absolutely run into the ground as well. I guess it’s all part of the fun.

Come on, on current league position yes but let’s not be like spurs and think we’re suddenly title contenders. If he was available I’d suspect spurs & Arsenal would fancy him. Villa have a lot more wedge than us and was interested. I think he’d get in Liverpool’s side as well.

I don’t think he is Rice level of ability but I’d have him in probably top 5 underrated players in the league personally.
