Never had him down as one of the Wuhan clan, but it all makes sense now.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
So do I. I am sure he is gutted it hasn’t worked out for him so far more than anyone. I personally don’t think he’s played particularly bad when he has played in the Cups. But Moyes watches him train far more than I do. And with the excellent eye for a player he has demonstrated throughout his managerial career and what he has achieved so far, all we can do is trust his judgment.
Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
If we are not going to play Kral, then we probably do need a CM. We looked too open in the Norwich game, but they were awful. Leeds made us pay. I was surprised Moyes did not change it early. Was crying out for Kral to come on and help Rice out.

not digging you out at all but just interested in what you saw that gave you high hopes when watching Krall. I hardly saw a lot of him..maybe 5 or 6 games for the czech republic, to say he looked terrible is probably doing him a favour. It got to the point I was convinced he was purposely playing badly so we could get him on the cheap. Ironically, like most when we got to the end of the summer window and didnt have cover for rice and Soucek I thought it was a move that was better done than not!!!, as it turns out I was wrong, wed probably have gotten more game time asking carlos sanchez to come back

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
We lost the CM battle on Sunday.
As good as Lanzini/Fornals are with the ball at there feet, they are lightweight in a physical game. Needed someone (like Kral) to win the ball and then give it to the likes of Lanzini to create openings.
If Kral is just not up to the job, then surely the loan would be terminated early ?
Could be a issue with the loan arrangements - minutes/games play = obligation to purchase.
Guess we’ll never know.

We'll need to pay anyway in the summer and if we can get it over the line now we might get ahead of Liverpool in the game (especially after the Elliott fall out a few years ago.. I'm sure Fulham would rather do business with us)

Carvalho would be a fantastic move to get done now rather than later.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 11:25 am Not a chance we're signing Carroll IMO. Just a silly rumour that's escalated.
Ex thinks there's a chance we might make an early move for Carvalho at Fulham.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Not sure how much money is available, wouldn’t be surprised if they are waiting to move a couple out first.
Phillips from Liverpool looks half decent and will only improve. He’s a good age and can certainly head a ball - unlike Diop.
For £10 - 15m he’d be a sensible signing and then decide whether to sell Diop now or extend his deal then loan him out for a bit.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I'm sure Kral is gutted too but I honestly think he's looked over-awed when playing in the games I've seen, ball watching a bit and looking a bit out of place. Be nice to see him given a bit longer on the pitch to have amore informed opinion, but as you say, I think we can trust in Moyes and he obviously doesn't feel he can put him in.funky chicken wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 4:24 pm So do I. I can't see him staying - with Benny and Vlasic you could feel Moyes feeding them more and more minutes as games went by, integrating them gradually. It doesn't seem like he intends to do that with Kral.
Shame. He's still young and for his sake, hopefully he can still learn from the experience.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Critical 2 weeks for many reasons, not least a failure to invest sends bad signals to likes of Rice Bowen and Fornals, all look like ambitious guys in a short career. They seem to like being Hammers, but as with any talented individual they’ll want their employers ambition to match their own or overtures from other apparently bigger clubs will become attractive.
We all hope we can get a striker and centre back, plus ideally a left back and a defensive midfielder.
The first 2 are obvious priorities, Antonio simply can’t play 3 games in a week, and with Oggy out for the season the yet to return Zouma is our only top standard centre back. Vital the new centre back can play rather than just defend, there is a growing trend for our opposition to let Dawson or Diop receive the ball relatively unchallenged, knowing a quick press, or just letting them get on with it frequently means we surrender possession and are back under pressure of our own making.
Actually I think a defensive midfielder is also pivotal. We all love watching Rice grow week by week but sometimes his “ Roy of the Rovers” attempts to win games single handed leave us exposed, and without Soucek we have nobody protecting the defence, and if Soucek does that job we lose some of his ability to score, which like it or not he does better than Rice. So someone like Kamara or Zakharia coming in with a real defensive mindset could allow both Rice and Soucek safe license to go forward. Left back is the one we can get away with for now if the other 3 are delivered.
Could mean we play 4 3 3 more often, but our problem isn’t scoring, it’s keeping the ball out of our net, Champions League contenders shouldn’t be conceding 3 at home to Saints and Leeds.
Who knows what the budget is, but we should be able to get 2 or 3 in especially if we look at players nearing contract end where current clubs will fear no incoming fee in the summer. Yarmo and co exiting in the summer means the wages only need covering for 4 or 5 months, and investing now can protect the likely £30-40m we’d like to repeat from a good Europa run again next season. If we move fast we still have a chance of Top 4, to date the Premier sides have all earned £75m plus from that competition, most of us have seen 2 or 3 previous opportunities fail due to little or no investment, let’s hope with Kretinsky adding a more ambitious influence that’s not repeated.
Finally let’s acknowledge the incredible improvement Moyes and co have managed over the last 18 months. This club really could start challenging on a regular basis, but as with most things in life standing still isn’t an option, yes we are still behind a few, but right now ahead of likes of Leicester, Villa Wolves and the Geordies. Let’s not let them overtake and slide back to Top 10 being the height of ambition.
It’s all obvious to the supporters, let’s hope we see positive action in the next fortnight, “ waiting to the summer” is likely to have negative consequences.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
You can argue about Moyes tactics and game management, can't fault him for the players he has brought to the club so far.
Just looking at his last few years at Everton, and you have the likes of a young John Stones, Hitzlsperger on a free, Kevin Mirallas from Greece, Pienaar cheap from Spurs, Drenthe from Real Madrid, Heitinga from Atletic Madrid, Distin cheap from P'mouth.
Solid.
