Re: ⚽ Manchester Utd vs West Ham Utd: match thread
I think some on here must be mistaking this Man U side from the one of 15/20 years ago.
They are in turmoil, the 11 they put out this weekend, bar the usual suspects have not had a kick all year and looked so.
If we really believe we can't beat these arseholes this weekend then we may as well pack up and expect relegation this year.
I tell you this, Man U now are 20pct of what they once were, Moyes should set us up to go for the jugular, aside from Greenwood they have no pace in the side to counter attack and even if you include Rashford in there his head has gone sideways.
I think if we are positive we cam win this 2 - 0 - Chelsea, Liverpool, City and Arsenal are streets ahead of the Mancs and Arsenal are the only side to have beaten us comprehensively of those 4.
We will have had a week's rest, good time to prepare and there can be no excuses for a lame rearguard action against these fellas, there is nothin g to fear. they are bog standard ordinary.
Let's be Avin ya.

My worry is Ronaldo's movement, if he gets any service I fully expect our defence to present him with a couple of chances.
(A side note, Ronaldo is no where near as slow as people make out. He's just a lot slower than he was in his prime which was nigh on an Olympic sprinter. None of our likely starting defenders are catching him if he gets away from them.)

We can't let him have freedom in the penalty area so we can't drop too deep like we often do.stu1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:21 pm My worry is Ronaldo's movement, if he gets any service I fully expect our defence to present him with a couple of chances.

Sounds like he has been having a go at the team.
We need to start aggressively and get him/them frustrated.
If we start slow and they build confidence it will be a tough afternoon.

I mostly agree with this. We should certainly be looking to attack rather than doing Moyes preferred tactic against the top teams of sitting deep, inviting pressure and trying to counter.
Get up the pitch and pressure them into mistakes and they wont be able to get players like Ronaldo into positions where they can score.
One aside though is Man Utd's apparent lack of pace up front is offset by our very real lack of pace at the back.

hopefully we will start well and strong and be up for it big time . a big win would send a positive statement to lingard and others who are thinking about joining !
fabianski
johnson dawson zouma cresswell
rice soucek fornals
bowen antonio vlasic
not the game for lanzini as too lightweight.
subs areola ashby diop alese masuaka noble yarmolenko oko flex lanzini
no point kral being on the bench !
hammers win 2-1 ant and bowen
COYI
Hindsight , maybe , but Leeds was not the game to be introducing Lanzini as the new Claude Makelele against a team with an incredible press and that at times appeared to have 16 players on the field
Well done with the spelling of Lanzini by the way

Call me crazy...
Rice in defence, Fornals, Soucek, Lanzini midfield?
I'm just trying to solve the conundrum of our **** defence. There's no way we'll score enough goals up there to get a point or three if we deploy our usual sieve like approach.

Aged 33, Ronaldo was the fastest sprinter at the 2018 WC.stu1 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:21 pm My worry is Ronaldo's movement, if he gets any service I fully expect our defence to present him with a couple of chances.

Yes, he was faster than Mbappe, who was 12 years younger.
The bloke (CR) is a machine.

No, Leaves us far too open in the middle. Got punished for it against Leeds, Man U would run us ragged. Rice and Soucek in the middle to give the defence some protectioniLoveLasagne wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 4:13 pm Call me crazy...

ihatelasagne now goes by the name crazy.
You don't take a truly WC player at what he does away from his best position. I would agree that he is told to sit more this game, which in truth he will have to as playing that lot at home will suit our natural game more.
Zouma touted to be back will certainly help us, tough game to come back to, certainly test him out.
Man U, as others have said are not that good but they do have players that can win a game for them, tough game, but I expect to see a bounce from the Leeds game.

Massive game with the like of Wolves, Palace, Leicester catching us.
Man Utd are a shambles and the manager looks lost.
Head says Man Utd win by 2 goals, heart says West Ham.

Were more than capable of beating this lot . But zouma has to play . The thought of a near 37 Ronaldo running at diop and Dawson is still enough to frighten the life out of me . I'd drop coufal for Johnson as well. he was so far off the pace on Sunday it was ridiculous.

He's been saying it for weeks, started with just Wolves but he's slowly adding teams regardless of if we win.
Won't be long before we 'need to win with Wolves, Leicester, Palace, Southampton and Watford catching up to us.'
He ignores that we're above his beloved Tottenham.
