I don't think Moyes was making a statement.
Just a last throw of the dice with what's available and you might as well sacrifice a defender

I find it bizarre that people think Moyes has to "send messages" to the board. He will have point blank told them what he needs, he doesn't need to give them hints and suggestions by bringing on certain players.

Do we really think either Gold or Sully can even see which players are coming on from their seats too?

Gold Probably thought it was Brooking coming on, and Sullivan can only see a stainless steel grab rail, when he doesn't have his booster seat.

Maybe Moyes didn’t do it for that reason yesterday, but there have definitely been times when managers have done it, by not naming a full bench or putting two keepers on the bench, not making any subs or playing players wildly out of position.

It’s the only way they can publicly show they’re unhappy with the squad without directly calling the owners out.

Or more like "we're desperately chasing for an equaliser, and need to rely on a 17 year old who has never played in the PL before Dave".

It doesn't have to be a coded message, just making clear what our back up is.

Are we not reading a bit too much into this?

We're 3-2 down, 5 minutes to go, and we have a raw England U18 striker on the bench who's a bit an unknown quantity.

The decision didn't work out, but he's hardly the first manager to roll the dice throwing on a young striker in the final few minutes of a game.

Always laugh at the 'played him to send a message to the board' argument. Just funny and grasping to defend poor management.
Playing Perkins at the moment is an incredibly bad reflection on Moyes.

Bad reflection or not just don’t see Moyes playing that game with the Management. There was no one available who was likely to do a better job of grabbing a goal so he sent him on in desperation or otherwise. I guess we can argue as to why he is in that situation but that’s wide ranging I think even if Moyes himself must shoulder some responsibility.

While I'm reading this site may I ask how to avoid having to read posts from certain people or someone? I hear about block button but cannot find it.

Getting close to doing that myself now, the blatant trolling is getting more obvious and more tedious.

I tend to agree. He nearly scored against (I can't remember) and have seen him a few times play for U23's. From what I have seen he is miles away from being a first team player. I hope he makes it, but wouldn't put money on it.

I remember a time when we gave a young teenager a go against the spuds on new years eve 1983 he seemed to turn out all right.

if Moyes plays a CF from the under 10's that will really send a message to the owners........ or maybe Moyes has painted himself into a corner and is left with nom options but to play Perkins as a last throw of the dice.

If it's the same one I'm thinking of, didn't he make his debut 364 days earlier, on New Year's Day 1983 against the same opponents?
Scored in both games.
