Don't think we were ever genuinely interested. Think our name was used just to leverage this new deal at Villa.

Remember, Hause has his own player agency and will knows how the game works.

One player I thought was decent and quite Antonio like is Moussa Marega.
I only saw him last season when Porto played Juventus and he caused them all sorts of problems.

Just checked what happened to him and apparently he went to Al-Hilal (same place as Matheus Pereira) on a free.

But also just seen apparently Everton were interested last week.
Any sale is money in the bag to them, if he is available might be worth a look.

I mean, similarity might be questionable but surely this is why we signed Vlasic? I can't for a minute imagine we would have signed Vlasic if we could have signed Lingard.
Not sure that's right otherwise we wouldn't be in for Lingard now

McTominay seems to play a lot for one of the biggest teams in Europe for someone who is “awful.”

He definitely had his discipline issues when he was younger, for sure. But in terms of the player he is he's exactly what people are wanting us to get Lingard in for, but 5 years younger and available.

I think he'd consider us - especially as the only concrete link I'm seeing is Newcastle (obvious caveat about money notwithstanding). Barca want him out. Be cheeky with a relatively low up front amount and plenty of longer term incentives which any attitude/injury problems he has would prevent from kicking in and I think Barca might be tempted to bite.

His goals/assists from just last season show he could very much play like Lingard, in my opinion.

Any chance we might be the other prem club after Diego Carlos from Sevilla?

Or is that probably Chelsea as they're losing Rudiger/Christensen this summer?

Would love Christensen here to be fair...

Are we in for Lingard now, though? Paper talk linking us aside, have we actually made a bid, or has a formal bid been reported (in the way Newcastle's was)?

Bit of devil's advocate in that, I know, as I'm sure we would have interest in Lingard after last season regardless.

Can we at least pretend we’ve signed someone?

Macca1973 wrote: Thu Jan 20, 2022 9:51 am People keep arguing for 'waiting until summer' to spend and 'Moyes looking at the long term picture' but that long term picture will look completely different if we go the rest of this season with only Antonio and one of Dawson and Diop playing every game! Add to that Masuaku and Yarmolenko as our main options off the bench then waiting until summer is surely not right.
I guarantee someone posted exactly this twelve months ago, yet here we are in 4th. Is it still not starting to feel like Moyes knows what he’s doing?

Do you really want this kind of person at West Ham?

We are only 4th cos we’ve completed the season - when Burnley win all their games in hand they are champions.

So apparently Man U now want £3.5m as a loan fee for Lingard effectively letting him leave the club for that amount having had him play a handful of games all season and with only one real contribution, ironically his goal against us.

I'm sure they could have got £20m for him in the summer.

Are Man U that thick?

I guess it’s worth remembering that Liverpool had that crisis in defence last year and could only get Davies and Kabak. One has not played for them and the other is now struggling at Norwich.

It’s not easy, and they’re a club who can afford to make mistakes.

It doesn’t mean we are unable, but it proves it’s not as easy as just deciding to buy some names.

I just find the whole Lingard thing strange, what was he told by Ole in the summer? Or was it just a case he wanted to be in Manchester which would be a feeble reason if so. I’d definitely leave him alone now though. Like Glen Johnson said he would have been back already had he wanted to.
