Dennis has had a good year and hard to look past him, but I do like Joao Pedro at Watford

Spurs also took the young gem Alfie Devine and Leeds the young hotshot Joe Gelhardt, both from Wigan, when the Latics were in Administration last season.
If that’s what we’d be doing I’ll be all for it. I guess my suspicion is that unlike Spurs, we’d probably be using them in the first team regularly.

He took Brian McBride at both Preston and Everton as well.

He’s dead good. You know someone is decent when you can actually identify them amongst the anonymous blob of Watford signings.

I know Pep’s bigged him up and arguably he understands football more than I do, but...I thought that New York bloke looked gash in his hype reels.

I couldn't fix on who he reminded me of when I watched one. Definitely not a carbon copy of Antonio though.

I am surprised we didn't compete for Sissoko when he signed for Watford. Still a very good player who would stiffen up our midfield and bring leadership and experience

Also Nathan Chalobah was allowed to leave for Fulham as he wouldn't sign a new contract. He would have been another decent squad option in CM

You can’t rule out the possibility that Pep’s been asked nicely to put out a few complimentary quotes by the overlords who own that network of clubs in order to beef up a sale. Must confess that was my first thought, because watching those clips you know Pep wouldn’t touch him with yours.

Don't get yourself down, mate. If you change your username to Cara de Ace people would see you two as equals. It's branding.

He has all the technique of a potato. He is one who inspires one of my favourite things about football, the knowing smile of a shared misery from fans of clubs he used to play for. I mentioned his miss against Newcastle to a mate of mine (a Spurs fan) and he smiled and said "did he shank it when he tried to do something simple?"

The kind of wistful smile of a shared misery you'd get when someone signs Diame or how we'd talk to fans of any club who sign Diop.

davids cross wrote: Fri Jan 21, 2022 2:29 pm He thinks long term......like, really long term.
In part I think that cost him his job at Man Utd. Thinking long term when the life cycle of a manager is 5 minutes is dangerous. It is why Moyes is probably better suited to clubs like West Ham and Everton who allow him time to build. However, I think the issues of long term planning begin to resurface when West Ham begin to creep towards the top 4 of the premier league and advance to the latter stages of European competition. The promise of potential trophies/success will understandably trigger calls from fans for Moyes to capitalise on our promising position and provide the best opportunity to win something. Moyes then enters similar territory to that of when he was at Man Utd - the need to make impact signings.

Fergie was astute in that he saw both the need for long term planning but also the importance of bringing in players to make impact. I think Moyes struggles a bit with the latter.

Moyes is terrific for us but I personally think it would be awful if he did not bring in reinforcements to give this West Ham side the best possible chance of success this season.

Let’s see what the last week of the window holds…

We may well have known about Samir but decided to pass, however we (the fans) may never know.

Would have thought a Watford signing might not be up to our standards.

It’s usually our signings that are not good enough for Watford…
