Are there no players anywhere in the world who we could sign that are at least an upgrade on the bench warmers ?
Moyes and his staff should be able identify players.
If think it’s more to do with the owners who don’t want to spend any money.

Rice and Bowen will not stick around if we do not get the players in to play alongside them and you cannot blame them. They will want to play with better players than we have and they can. We may not address that in this window but we certainly must in the summer if we are to stand any chance of retaining them for next season

Isn't that what the likes of Newman are for? Or our experienced manager?

I trust that we will buy Areola. Looks a very decent 'keeper.

Kral presumably gets offed as soon as we possibly can, whilst Noble retires. CM required.

Vlasic? How long do you persevere? He's behind Lanzini, Fornals and Bowen - and would have been behind Benrahma if he'd been available.

We have spent c.£70m on a 4th choice CB (Diop) and a 5th and 6th choice pair of AMs (Yarmolenko and Vlasic).

The cash needs recycling and we should absolutely avoid buying any players from the Russian league.

But you didn't answer my question. Of course its obvious we need strengthening but if the players our 'experts' have identified are either not available today (due to promotion or relegation) or out of our price range (we don't have a limitless budget) then who would you suggest and then we can debate the merits of your suggestion on here. So just saying its cobblers, is ...err cobblers.

Signing better than we have as first choice for the money we could reasonably spend?
It's why it's so difficult to break into the top 4 over a sustained period.

Even at 20 or so million it's a punt for clubs like ours.

We've twice had the opportunity to break into the top 4 and fell short we won't be in this position for a long time to come Newcastle looking likely they may stay up and if they do will strengthen massively in the Summer, Everton will get an appointment right sooner or later and Villa are spending money. We will finish 6th 7th and had the chance to progress and didn't yet again. We've needed a striker for 2 years its inexcusable that we've been in this position and then to say Antonio is dead on hes feet thats your fault Moyes spending stupid Money on Vlasic whi isn't going to cut it now. These owners won't sell its a cash cow for them and they won't invest either no need were safe now anyway if you think they honestly have any interest in making us a top 4 club then your wrong. We've had our chance and blew it watch our crown jewels start eying up moves away

Have to say, Moyes is tieing his own hands behind his back with the lack of forward options on the bench, think he's doing a great job for us, and hopefully he'll learn from today.

But erm the same excuse was used last January, can’t get the striker we want wait till the summer. Summer comes and oh no forward comes in. I said last January that the nosies at the time no one was available and we could get a forward in the summer then we should have seen someone through the door in the first couple of weeks but we didn’t.

Look we needed a forward when Haller was here, we have one at the club I’d argue we have none cos I don’t think Antonio is a forward but that’s another debate.

Abraham went last year, but we spent on Vlasic instead which was ridiculous. The year we sold Grady we was told it was to fund a CF & CB. What happens we go to Brentford and take Benrahma when Watkins was available at a few quid more. Sorry but it is utter pony that no one as been available, who is moyes looking for the next Messi?. The squad is just as unbalanced as it was when he came, don’t get me wrong it shows the job he has done but he needs to pull his finger out

Moyes clearly had no faith in his subs today.
The two that could have come on, he signed. Hardly a ringing endorsement of them, or him for that matter.

Last year everyone was saying we won't have a better chance for top four ever again, yet here we are.

It's much harder to sign improvements now that we're actually good.

I'm still certain we'll sign a couple of players.

People were saying it a few weeks ago when we dropped out the top 4..."uh oh that's that then be lucky to finish 8th now"...thankfully the team appear to have more minerals than many fans.

Personality of new signings will matter to Moyes as much as on the field ability, he's been talking a lot about the attitude of this group of players and he will want to foster that as much as possible.

It's frustrating but he's a last day of transfer window kinda guy so expecting anything sooner is just stressing yourself out.

Wilko1304 wrote: Sat Jan 22, 2022 5:38 pm The bench isn't good enough - we need reinforcements badly - but he still needs to use it better. Players completely knackered for the last 10-15, so it's not bad luck to concede late. It's a gamble backfired.
how many late goals have we given up this season ? seems like 4 or 5 or more.

could be my brain working overtime but it does seem like late goals in some games have cost us vital points. not normally a case when we're 3 or 4 up.

Brentford for sure cost 3 points. today another 3. pretty sure there's a couple more that might have at the least snatched a draw, Palace at home maybe seemed like it was pretty late. that was 2 points dropped.

edit: Linguard at home was pretty late too wasn't it?

today would have been a great time to bring on Noble as was last Sunday home to Leeds.

Interesting development. Leverkusen have signed Azmoun on a free once he is out of contract in the summer. That could make Schick available, but probably not until the summer.
