I don't understand the Calvert-Lewin links.

He isn't exactly a like for like with Antonio. They are completely different strikers.

Wonder how he would fit in. Certainly wouldn't fit our free flowing counter style. Would be interesting to see the impact on Bowen, Benrahma, Lanzini etc.
We just need someone who can lead the line and has a reasonable amount of pace. DCL ticks all these boxes, we don’t need a carbon copy of Antonio.

I’d actually argue signing a more pure striker who can lead the line would benefit us more than a carbon copy of Antonio. It would give us another dynamic.

EDIT: despite the above it’s obviously nonsense.

I’d quite like Toney in the summer though, in a team better than Brentford I think he’d do very well.

If it happened and then went wrong, it would be a big cock-up.

I wonder though if Moyes looks at his team and concludes that he has 7 or 8 at the right age and level and needs to fill just three or four more.

If two of those were Lingard and Tarkowski signed on 'frees' , has he got a situation where he can put almost all his funds into one player?

He'd have some sellable reserves to probably fund half the fee.
Areola, Coufal, Tarkowski, Zouma, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Bowen,Lingard, Fornals, New Striker

If he can fill two of those with freebies like Tarkowski and Lingard, he may accept their age for the short-term benefit. A starting striker leaves only really Cresswell as an issue for the first team, and I would guess he thinks that can be managed over the next year.

I suspect we'll make quite a few moves in the summer with Noble, Yarmolenko and Fredericks all likely to go, and Masuaku and Diop probably touted out.

EX has just stated that there is no truth in the DCL rumour.

No surprise, didn't think he would join. Glad I didn't get too excited.

Of course there isn't. We ain't shelling out 60m on one player and for a bloke who's probably got his eye on the likes of Man City or Chelsea.

It's a made up pipe dream.

Would much rather Patrick Schick.

He impressed me a lot at the Euros.

With our Czech contingent I told myself I would look out for how Schick does this season on the off chance we would ever sign him.

He has 18 goals in 17 games for Leverkuson.

Not bad.

Pretty sure Arsenal and Real Madrid (!!!) were linked with DC earlier this season.

Obviously Carlo managed him at Everton but I can’t see him being of that calibre.

He’s exactly the type of player that Newcastle will target next summer, if they stay up.

Zouma was on loan at Everton, Vlasic used to play for the toffees. I dont believe Ex I am sure Moyes has put out feelers for DCL at the very least. Players like Bowen and Soucek were scouted by WHU before Moyes got involved so Im told

Probably not. But, at the same time, I doubt Ex would know one way or the other!

The thing about transfers and their reporting is, that story could well be based on good info. It could well be based on info that they have only found out about now, and it may never have been more than a question, someone investigating if it was possible.

It may now no longer be what you'd consider "open" so Ex's info may well be fine. He also might not have the right info. He may have dishonest info. It's a difficult, dirty business, why I hate people attacking journalists when they're wrong.

I would be shocked if we didn't ask, it was common knowledge with Everton staff that the player wasn't happy with Benitez.

I honestly thought we had no chance of getting Zouma, so I'm certainly not writing it off.

Again. Patrick Schick won't join West Ham or sny club of our size. The guys running Bayer Leverkusen are well aware that far bigger clubs already have put their feelers out to sign him next summer.

So the options now seem to be

1, DCL
2, Schick
3, Someone
4, No one

I think option 4 seems the most likely.

The Antonio is the only type of forward who would be successful in our team/system is a myth, a technically good striker who scores goals regularly would thrive imo. Add in one with decent pace and bingo.

Now there’s a surprise. Where are these silly season rumours coming from. Is Sullivan having been gagged over anything real just can’t help himself releasing fantasy football prospects to pass the time and keep his hand in.

If I had any faith in us having a sane transfer strategy, I would assume we are exploring the high ambition targets like Schick and DCL, knowing we could get an Arthur Cabral at the end of the window relatively cheaply. I am certain however that we won't any striker.
