There are better attacking midfielders out there than Benrahama too.

Still feel like Feghouli was hard done by. Nowhere near as bad as people made out, showed glimpses of quality and was unlucky with injuries. Ayew was **** though (apart from that game against spurs).

We can still offer a hefty signing on fee now to players who will be a free agent come the summer [to tempt them into signing now].

Well there you go, but I'm happy enough with someone who has 5 goals and 4 assists in the league for us this season. Whoelse for that price range in his position do you think would have more?

That’s true but I personally think Watkins would have done more for us in the last 18 months than Benrahma has. No way to prove that either way though.

I know that i’m cynical, but the fact Benrahma’s agent is Salthouse and Moyes didn’t ever seem to fancy him as a player was always very suspicious to me

Which rather neglects Benrahma's contribution last season.

Since we are doing that, Ollie Watkins scored 14 Premier League goals last season. Who else in that price range do you think would have more?

He won't be getting any kind of break anytime soon. Need to spread the load.
Well he can have a week off after that until we play Watford. I don't think we'll need, or play, Antonio against Kidderminster.

Watkins is such a weird player.

He’s both a bit of a clumsy oaf who is ridiculously profligate with his chances, but also a really decent player who would fit us superbly.

I suppose you could describe Michail similarly, so it makes sense.

TommyHammer wrote: Mon Jan 24, 2022 12:40 pm Surely if that was the case with Lingard we'd be all over it already? Sceptical.
There’s nothing to be sceptical about.

Man U want to sell Lingard to get a fee.
West Ham and Newcastle want to sign Lingard permanently.
Lingard would join West Ham permanently given the chance.
Man U won’t sell to West Ham, only Newcastle.
Lingard would only join Newcastle on loan [presumably as he wants to sign permanently for us and is being denied that opportunity whilst contracted to Man U]

Neither of the tweets suggest that Man U would be willing to sell to us.

All of the above is highly believable.

Agreed. Watkins is a very limited player. Has the looks of a striker that will hit occasional periods of form, and be utter gash 90% of the time.

The point I was trying to make was that the use of data using an arbitrary starting point (and in my case, an arbitrary end point) suits your (or my) argument.

Surely the statement "United are reluctant to loan him to West Ham and would only do permanent transfer there. " from the second tweet suggests it?

The Athletic report is that we're trying to loan Cake-eater Car from Marseilles.

Certainly would make sense all round from our side if they could get it done. Not sure it's much in Marseilles interest though.

I was led to believe that 500 pages on this thread would lead to a signing. I have been deceived once again.

If we were in a relegation battle, do you think GSB and Moyes would show the same lack of urgency?

Rumour doing the round is that Newcastle have made a fresh bid for Lingard today and offered Man U a loan fee of £10m.

£10m for a 6 month loan fee
