Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
To all those who say we dont need a striker but are looking at goalscorers.
That's all very well and good. But we need someone to rotate with Antonio.
How many times has Bowen and Yarmolenko played number 9 this season? Not many.
Antonio has played nearly every minute of every game. He has also been playing half way across the world for Jamaica.
All of this workload for a player who has traditionally always had injury problems and surely isn't used to playing a full season.
The burn out of him must be massive. Both mentally and physically. I dont want to be too harsh on him but he has 2 goals in his last 14 league games. Not playing very well is he.
By all means sign Lingard. Or sign some other fancy winger/inside forward. But play them as number 9 and give Antonio a rest
But we know this won't happen.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
A player like Kamara who is more defensive than Soucek would be perfect for us and could keep Declan here for a while longer. I love soucek but Declan Rice is a player you do everything to keep if you possibly can.
At the bigger clubs I feel he'd be confined to being a defensive midfielder whereas here (should we bring in a defensive midfielder) we could let him be more of the box to box player he obviously wants to be.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
I've just watched the video for Ekitike on Youtube.
I then watched the video for Origi.
You have to say that the Origi one looks far more impressive - and it's mainly against Premier League and Champions League opposition too.
People always prefer new names from foreign leagues though, even if they know very little about them.

Also, no point looking to freshen things up or get an extra body up front by moving your attacking winger more centrally! Extra forward players made sense before benrhama, bowen and vlasic not now.

I would not understand signing a defensive midfielder in this window…
Unless we are either changing formation or playing soucek up top

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Someone like Broja, if he is available, is the type of player, who on the face of what we have seen from him, we should be interested in.
For me he has already shown at least the same output as a PL player as Armstrong who I believe cost £15-£20m so why, if £25m is the price, is it unrealistic? It might “overvalue” him now in strict terms but the homegrown tag and potential can both legitimise this.
Whether Chelsea are willing to sell and if £25m is the price are different questions.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Kamara makes long term sense and can act as an additional CB. (plus whisper it, but he could be the long term replacement for Dec)Romfordboy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 4:15 pm I would not understand signing a defensive midfielder in this window…

Spot on.stu1 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 3:15 pm Or people can see the obvious talent he has? This comment will look rather ridiculous in a couple years when he's worth far more than £25m.
Your use of stats is also misleading, pretty sure you've been pulled up on this before when it comes to Borja. He wasn't brought in to be Southampton's main striker so made a number of sub appearances at the beginning of the season and two further sub appearances after coming back from injury. Minutes wise he's played less than equivalent to 11 full games and has 5 goals plus 1 assist, as well as winning a pen against us. In the first game against us he also caused us all sorts of problems off the bench.
Many think he'll be part of the Chelsea squad next season unless a big offers comes in for him, it's not hard to figure out why that might be. Maybe you just need to watch him play a bit more.
He'd be an excellent signing, which unfortunately won't happen. Chances of us signing a better striker than Borja in this window are incredibly low, especially when you consider how he's likely to improve. If we sign him Antonio will have a huge challenge on his hands to remain our number one striker until the end of the season.
Broja would be a great signing, none of this acclimatising b*llocks we hear about either. He is gaining useful premier league experience, scores goals, is very physical, has come through an exceptional youth set up, is already at double figure international caps...
He looks ideal to bring in and challenge Antonio for the shirt from day one, and would want to be first choice sooner rather than later.
Whilst I think he would be a great fit, I cannot see it happening and have no idea of the contractual situation surrounding his loan.
£20/25 M for him ? No brainer surely if it's a genuine option

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Leicester at home = subbed off on 88 minutes
Man Utd at home = missed altogether
Southampton at home = played 45 minutes
Norwich at home = subbed off on 87 minutes
So he has played every minute of every other game.
It's ludicrous.
Antonio has played every minute of every league game this season bar.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
If Broja is going for £25m then that is a steal.
It is of course irrelevant to this thread as we will not be in for him.

He's also in his twenties - the same as Lucas Digne, and we all know how old he is!
