Why would Blackburn put a massive dent in their promotion drive by selling Brereton on the last day with no time to replace him? I would have thought that getting promoted would have a bigger financial reward than anything they'd get for Brereton.
It's a fair point. The counter argument is that they are owned by shisters, are a selling club, despite their current league position are unlikely to get promoted and Brereton has only 6 months left on his contract (albeit with a 12 month option)

Maybe they have a replacement lined up?

Not being willing to pay a big fee upfront for a defensive backup is right, IMHO. As long as I'm reading the tea leaves right and we're gonna spend big on an attacking player until the end of the window.

I can see us making an offer that’s accepted but then we can’t agree personal terms

Origi.... 21 goals in 103 league games. The most in one season being 7.

Most of which were cameos... better than a goal/assist every two games under klopp when calculating it using minutes played.

You could also spin it as a goal every 19 minutes this season in the Premier League :)

Not one player has moved that I'm disappointed in us not signing.

Not one.

I'd like a striker and a CB.

If it doesn't happen that'll be a shame, but I'll hold any judgement until the end of the season. Moyes knows what he's doing, he's not going to not sign anyone for a laugh. There will be reasons, whether it's the board or availability of other players who knows.

I expect we'll bring in Phillips on a loan to buy, I'd like a striker but if we know Broja is available in the summer I'd be tempted to wait it out, see it we can get a loan deal for someone to cover until then.
Why would we loan to buy a CB we know can play in this league though, cheapskates. Someone mentioned it the other day I think, all this wait till the summer stuff. Come the summer mate we’re gonna need minimum 6 players to just fill the holes and stand still. That’s without Rice leaving and any other player leaving. We aren’t gonna do that so we’re constantly left short, the obvious stuff needed sorting this window, it’s piss poor management it hasn’t been.

Indeed.

5 goals+2 assists this season in the equivalent of less than 4.5 games.

The age, the current club profile, the style....it's all something Moyes has shown a liking for in previous signings.

The fee will be much more to Sully's liking than £50m on whoever. The board will still be fretting from the Haller and Anderson experience. £60m loss.

He looks good value at £25m on the basis of the two occasions that I have seen him take our centre halves to the cleaners, and he's on target for 8-10 goals in a bang average PL team. The old £2.5m-£3m per goal maxim applies.
£25m would have been an acceptable risk level but £40m appears to be the price being kicked about now. Possibly only a trial balloon put out there by Chelsea, but it certainly seems closer to where I'd expect it to land at this point.

I imagine he's on standby in case Areola decides not to stay.

Yes, £40m would be toppy at this stage.

Meanwhile, Spurs getting gazumped

Starting to look like Klippety wants to move one or two on, and they might be higher profile than Origi.

That rumour is like a coldsore. Enduring and unwelcome whenever it re-appears.

Seems to me the sole evidence against retaining Areola at this point is a few flaps at Old Trafford in the spring, in a game we won with a clean sheet.

Aston villa have signed 3 players and have only league positions to play for we have signed nobody and got f.a.cup europa and 4th to 6th to play for not looking good
I get the impression Villa are throwing around silly money. I can see Moyes trying to build something, Villa will be the next Everton

Hope Liverpool get Diaz if only because he's too good to be allowed to play for Tottenham. It's not even that I watch Porto all that much, but when I do he almost invariably does something brilliant. Might also be a future bulwark against any Bowen interest.

At the beginning of the season, my assumption was that we would somehow end up with Areola and Johnstone as our two goalkeepers at the start of the 22/23 season. A pair of 26-30 year old keepers replacing the three 34-37 year old ones.

I can still see that we would offload Randolph, but Fabianski's form has been decent this season. Some questions, certainly - but not at the "must be replaced" level.

If he has a release clause, and he wants to leave, they may not have much say (dont know if he does)

I think it's because of the rumours (not substantiated) that he may not want to stay.

why on earth would the club consider selling Longelo?
We need a left back once Cresswell is gone, he is home grown, local and looks excellent.

Longelo started playing Sunday league football as a nine-year old for Euro Dagenham. He joined West Ham United’s under-10 side playing as a midfielder and scored five goals on his debut, against Chelsea. Due to his pace he was moved to play as a striker. Playing for West Ham’s under-23 team, Longelo played as a left-back. On 21 September 2020, Longelo made his debut for West Ham in a 5–1 EFL Cup win against Hull City.

Quite frankly I’d rather sign no one this window than sign Sam Johnstone

Don’t rate him at all
