Seems a better option than going for Diop..... after all we are selling to buy Car.... so why wouldn’t Newcastle just go and buy the player we want to replace diop with.... especially as we are not offering any upfront payments and are trying for a loan to buy option... and OM are desperate for a big upfront cash purchase ....
Diop and Caleta-Car are different players. It's really not hard to work this out.

Diop would possibly be a good signing for Newcastle given the way Howe sets his team up. Dare I say he would be a decent signing for Man City given the way they set their team up.

For a Moyes styled defence, not so much.

Caleta-Car is more in the mould of a Moyes style defender.

So why would Howe want a player that doesn't fit into his preferred style of play?

I'm supposed to be working Monday but I'd be willing to throw a sickie if the club need someone to drive Diop up to Newcastle?

How would Diop, who is terrible with the ball at his feet, be a decent signing for possession-based Manchester City?

As if Caleta-Car would swap OM for Newcastle. He wants to go to a competitive side.

I think he is referring to defending a high line rather than in possession.

Back to the question - How would Diop, who is terrible with the ball at his feet, be a decent signing for possession-based Manchester City?

A lot of talk today that Liverpool want Fabio Carvalho.

Only upshot to that for us is that if they get him and Diaz it would surely make a move for our Jarrod less likely in the summer.

I guess the proviso to that is if Salah and Firminho both leave in the summer.

Meh I don't think he's terrible at all with the ball... Playing on the left doesn't help him...but he's had a few good marauding runs up the pitch a fair few really nice flighted balls that have launched good attacks...Much bigger flaws in his game than his ability on the ball

The pipe dream of selling Diop up north might be over quicker then we think, as the Magpies got theit hands on Mainz defender Jerry St. Juste as well. SAme kind of profile and cheaper.

Because they play a high line. Would have more time with the ball at his feet. He doesn't need to be the world's best passer just like Nathan Ake isn't.

Miguel Delaney's newsletter (The Independent):

One big question at West Ham
There’s a little bit of mystery around the game, as West Ham United have put in a £50m bid for a striker but no parties are revealing who. It isn’t Dominic Calvert-Lewin, isn’t Patrik Schick and isn’t Andre Silva. If something comes off, it could be one of those deals that really does take people by surprise.

Another tough Arsenal target
One possibility is Alexander Isak, although they would have considerable competition from Arsenal, not to mention the formidable obstruction of Real Sociedad’s stance. They do not sell in January, and know they can get a lot more than £50m for Isak. It would be closer to £100m. Isak, for his part, is insistent on only going to a Champions League club.

In a high line you even need more of a positional sense, as you'll have less time to correct your position, the action will come quicker to you. A nighmare for a player like Issa Diop.

Diop is perfectly adept on the ball when he has time and players to pass to
That doesn't happen much for us but would at Manchesyer City
I am not saying he is good enough for Manchrster City - for from it - but he is a better passer than Zouma, Dawson and Oggy, especially when not having to use his weaker left foot all the time

What Diop is not is a 'blood and snotters' defender which Moyes favours
