Anyone else’s house, garden world covered in sand? I think it’s from the Sahara.

You might mock now but you’ll be moaning about your car needing a clean very soon. Unless it’s in a garage.

I'm in West Sussex....bout 20 miles from South London.

It's about to rain.

And by the colour of the sky, I think the rain may be orange.

I'm now doing the noise/finger movement to get me a cloud :D

Sky is very orange and it's raining - just checked BBC, no big bombs/nukes reported.

Little bit of motoring advice.

Don't try and clear it with your washers straight away. Rinse it off first with a few kettles/buckets of water or a low pressure hose.

If you treasure decent paintwork, don't take it to a car wash/jet wash if you can avoid it. Use a low pressure hose to get the majority of it off, then go and get it washed. A car wash will just hit it straight off the bat at full pelt and the high pressure will fling the sand over your paintwork at a rate of knots and it will scratch the f*** out of it.

The official terms for this wind is either Scirocco, Ghibli, or Jugo and it was the scourge of the Afrika Korps and Eighth Army alike in Libya and also in Egypt (where it was known as Khamsin, Chamsin or Hamsin). Many times (even during battles) everything had to grind to a halt as the sand and dust would blind and choke you as well as knocking out electrical equipment and compasses. This was the only protection soldier's had against the sand during these storms.

The same happened to Napoleon's soldiers in Egypt over a century before.
