Re: ⚽ Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham United: match thread
As much as the red card didn’t help, I don’t think that had too much of an effect. We didn’t play much different in the first 20 minute than what we did for the rest of the game.
When you defend as badly as we do and we did today for their goal you won’t be winning any trophies. It’s been our Achilles heel all season and it’s cost us a place in the final over 2 legs. From the opening game against Newcastle to now. We equally haven’t been good enough in the attack either these past few weeks.
A great journey nevertheless. Shame it has to end the way it did.

I’m proud of the team, but, exasperated that lack of cover in the areas we’ve all known about for years has come home to roost at the end of this season.
Truth is, we’ve spent the entire season without a natural centre forward - one with instinct and a natural ability to be in the right place.

Like losing to Southampton or Brentford.il_martello_di_genovesi wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:03 pm We’ve lost 2 games to an average side at the end of the day. That’s the biggest sickener for me.
Play them in November and it’s 2 or 3-0 to us and we’d have won that with 11 men.
Sometimes players f*** up. Especially ones that are on the back 9 so to speak.
The real question is why Cress is still considered first choice when left back has been our Achilles heel for so long.
And it’s not just on the owners/January. I don’t think Johnson gets sent off in that situation. Probably not Fredericks either.
Oh well….was a great run, and we’ll never forget Seville.

I see all of the ****ers are out on here tonight. Deary me. Have some pride.
Same tourists who have jumped on the band wagon since we’ve become a decent side no doubt

Some people need to calm down and stop having a pop at each other on here whilst emotions are high. We are all West Ham

Embarrassing, isnt it? 8 years of service Cresswell has given us, won England caps in the process. He has always been susceptible defensively, but generally has made up for it with his delivery.
The red was soft in the sense I dont think enough was done to bring him down, but he gave the ref a decision to make.
Over the two legs, it was fine margins. Hitting the woodwork 3x in the first leg, Bowens header, and Souceks tonight. Balls not dropping for us like Zouma's off the line etc. They didn't go for us at all, and games swing on these.
Ultimately, we have looked tired and lethargic for a while now, as a lot of us anticipated would happen. It has just happened a lot later. We need to keep Bowen and Rice, and recruit better than Kral and Vlasic.
We've made ridiculous strides in the right direction. From near relegation to the cusp of a European final and Champions League. Lets pray this isnt the peak, and that we can build on it.

Problem is, you can match up in 10 positions, but if the 11th is hopelessly short on competence and the opposition ruthlessly target the 11th, you lose.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:07 pm Did you even watch?
We hit the woodwork three times in the first leg and looked more likely to score in the 2nd half we just couldn't get that lucky break.
Frankfurt looked distinctly average. The red card did us is.
'truly embarrassed' 'significantly better team', do me a favour.
That's happened.
We are hopelessly bad at left back.
If we had a good'un, we'd have strolled into the CL and the EL final.

Re: ⚽ Eintracht Frankfurt v West Ham United: match thread
Our biggest error was in January when we failed to add to an already depleted squad. We needed another striker, defensive cover and considering Moyes clearly made his mind up early doors about Kral, another midfielder.
We knew we were fighting on three fronts, and to not roll the dice and really go for it was shocking!
We don't learn from our mistakes. We had an opportunity in 15/16 to push for a Champions League spot, but only brought in Emenike and Byram on the cheap. Again, a chance to build after that season and made an absolute hash of the summer window going into 16/17.
Absolutely gutted, and can't quite believe what happened with the sending off, for that to happen twice in the space of two ties is unbelievable and completely hampered any chance of pulling off something tonight.
Again, gutted.

I'm not Creswells biggest fan but let's be honest zouma did him zero f*cking favours on that incident. Are we man marking or zonal? Also, thought at the half should have hooked fornals, antonio and Bowen in favor of Benny, vkasic, and yarmers. Play the ball deep on the wing and run them looking for corners as a goal from open play was never happening. I'm disappointed with the kraut sh*thousing, you're a man up and resorting to sh*thousing, f*cking abominable!! Anyway, fortune's always hiding...

Not sure why people keep saying we lost to a poor team. Don't know if you've noticed, they were better than us. Yeah circumstances blah, blah. It's May. Every side has its own 'what ifs' and 'buts' and 'coulda/shouldas' at this point in the season. IIRC, we weren't that far off relegation spots when we met Frankfurt in 75/76 season. Let's not sound so damned entitled. We got done. Right side is in the final.

Progress, and probably finishing above 85/91 other league clubs.cliff99claret wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 10:11 pm We've beaten Liverpool and Man City and what does it add up to ??.
