I am sure several of those 8-10 will renew or the number is that high in the first place (do we need 3 RB plus possibly Ashby?) but the importance is. We need to get this (and the next if Rice leaves) right in a way we did not in the two MP/MH windows. Those have taken several years to recover from, we cannot afford to repeat the mistakes.

Gsbgsb wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 6:27 pm It is for Moyes to decide if another £50m CM is the priority over say a £50m Striker or whether he is going to go “cheap” in CM for a squad player.

If the budget for CM is £15m the question then is who is better than JB for that sort of sum.
I can't see any good reason why our budget for a CM would be that low.

I can't see any reason why either Phillips or Ward Prowse would cost anywhere near £50m or £60m

There are god knows how many superior midfield players to Josh Brownhill that cost somewhere between £0 and £50m.

Besides which, it's obviously between Brownhill and Pogba for who gets a £400k a week contract at PSG, Barca and Bayern.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that Sullivan has told Declan Rice " Sign this contract now...or we'll loan a player from Burnley."

Didn't Southampton turn down £38m from Villa for him in the summer before he signed a new deal?

We also had the £50m* offer rejected for Phillips in January

*yes I know

Phillips has a £25m release clause on relegation apparently and Ward Prowse bid was supposedly £25m (https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... midfielder).

Last summer we were supposedly interested in a player at FC Koln, Ellyes Skhiri. Bloke's a 6'1" CM/DM playing in a top 7 team in the Bundesliga. He is entering the final year of his contract.

But there is no alternative to Josh Brownhill.

I see we've latched on to our Summer Transfer Thread joke early on.

Brownhill will join the Carrick Deal and SWP's medical in infamy.

Wouldn't dream of it!
But I don't think he's one for tapping up players.
Rightly or wrongly.

That's like replacing Payet with Snodgrass.

But not as bad as Rio with Hayden Foxe.

We were also connected to him last summer. He is very good defensively, his stats are even impressive in that field : https://fbref.com/en/players/c2211709/s ... ing-Report

You can see he is compared to Soucek by the algorithm by the way.

I still hope we try again to get him this summer, he seems to be what we tremendously lack of.

Last winter, with Guimaraes sold to Newcastle, the name of Adem Zorgane, from Charleroi, was linked to us as a potential replacement. He also seems to have the kind of qualities you are looking for, even if I have of course absolutely no clue about his potential readiness for PRL.

Is Josh Brownhill this year's John Lundstram?

Maybe, and it sounds crazy saying this, but if we had John Lundstram this year instead of Kral, we might be closer to 4th than we are now…just by virtue of being able to give Rice/Soucek a few more rests, or by providing an additional sub in the center with some energy

Brownhill wouldn’t be my top choice, but someone like him wouldn’t hurt

bubbles1966 wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 6:05 pm Next season should be the final season of top 6/7 consolidation.

The club need to have 20 players Moyes is happy to bank on rather than the current number where he gives the impression of only really trusting around 15/16 or so. This must be achieved this summer to maintain impetus.

We cannot have another season where we only sign two that are trusted. They have to get four or five right this time.
To be fair, bubbs - I think he actually really trusts about 9/10 and tolerates a half-dozen more. But I agree with your broad point :)

Ward-Prowse without the free kicks is a poor man’s Noble.

Loads of money and wouldn’t improve us one iota.

Payet is still doing the business at 35. Great player and such a shame it went pear shaped. One if the best in a whu shirt in the last 30 years

Clickbait sites are quoting French media that a bid for Jonathan David is imminent from us.

we’ve been linked before so may be truth in our interest. I’ve never seen him play but his YouTube shows lots of goals as a result of poor defensive work and miscontrols falling favourably for him….anyone seen him play much? £45m quoted, think his YouTube’s make £50m for Watkins look reasonable.

No one is getting into a team on free kicks alone.

Best player on the pitch against us at our place, fantastic player. Absolutely perfect for us.

Perfect is a push. I’d love him to have an extra gear, but then he probably wouldn’t be on our radar.

Agree though, the idea he is the football equivalent of a tennis serving machine is disrespectful. A very neat and tidy player who puts himself about and scores from open play.

Just depends on the price.
