Let's hope one of them is successful.YorksHammer wrote: ↑Mon May 16, 2022 10:16 pmDidn't see this posted recently, but apparently we're in pole position for Sam Johnstone.

Seems like there are a good 10 other clubs linked with him, though.
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I like Phillips, certainly as an option to Rice/Soucek if we could afford it but I just do not see how he starts ahead of Soucek, especially if you are talking as a DM. On almost every defensive stat Thomas is ahead, often way ahead, of him.
Ok Phillips has only played 48 games to Thomas 85 but
Blocked shots 5 to 29
Interceptions 66 to 136
Clearances 64 to 231
Duels won 246 to 693
Duels lost 253 to 604
Aerial battles won 46 to 435
Aerial battles lost 59 to 337
Errors leading to goals 1 to 0
Tackles favours Phillips given games played 126 to 171 but Thomas has the higher success percentage 48 to 51. 50/50’s at 25 to 26 also favour Phillips given games played.
That is ignoring the 1 PL goal against 18.
I really worry Thomas is being subjected to the Kouyate treatment of “he is poor at X” without his game being judged as a whole. Sure if there are contract issues or he is pressing for a move that has to be dealt with but Phillips would probably be at least no more than a side grade and quite possibly a downgrade.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
It's all very well us having a 6 figure sum to spend but there are more teams with more money now in the PL and the good players will be over priced I reckon. Most of the clubs above us are going to be looking for more players than usual and the likes of Newcastle, Villa and Wolves are needing as many as we do and will pay tempting salaries in lieu of European football. So the key for a successful transfer window imo is Newman. If he is as good as was mooted (and his high salary) hopefully he will have found 2 or 3 under the radar gems. Any mugs (like us!) can identify decent players that cost squillions or mediocre Sully players that don't. Nevertheless I think it will not be an easy window and we must be decicive not dithering.

Re: Wijndal - bit short I think, but fast as hell. Would work well with a ball playing aerially dominant left centre back who isn’t that quick maybe….?
Also captains his club side
Wijndal... sounds like he may be the perfect left side of defence partner for Aguerd? Him and Aguerd fixing our backline for under 30 million (with maybe half coming back for Diop and Masuaku) sounds like good business as it saves a lot of money for the rest of the team.

If any player would turn down a club who has finished in a European place for 2 consecutive seasons like ourselves to join the likes of Aston Villa then we are quite frankly better off without them. That just tells me the player is only joining that club for one reason, money.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
The local newspaper here, Le Progrès, mentions an interest of WHU for Thiago Mendes and Tetê.
They are normally very well informed for the OL related news, save the transfers. That matter is probably under greater secrecy for the insiders and the "real" sources are probably agents rather than club employees. So my opinion is that the article is mostly recycling old internet rumours and not providing fresh material.
As it's WHU related, I mention it here but I doubt it has any real value.

If true then this would appear to have Newman's mitts all over this. He found a few hidden gems from abroad whilst at Cityfunky chicken wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 8:04 am#WestHam have shown interest for #Juventus’ left fullback Luca #Pellegrini (born in 1999). #transfers #WHUFC

Aston Villa are historically a big club.
They've got loads of money.
We've mostly been pony for years.

Not sure about that as we were heavily linked with him last summer too.

That Wijndal fella seems to have excellent stats as an attacking player with 10 assists this season and more key passes per game than any of our attacking midfielders. Question is... what's he like defensively?

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I watched the Lyon league games in the buildup to our fixture and thought Tete looked really lively in his first cameo appearance, and then again against us in the first leg - so much so I thought he’d be comfortably the biggest danger in the return fixture given our weakness on that side.
But I can barely remember him being on the pitch in that game he was so anonymous. Seemed to be relying on one foot as his weapon and if he didn’t get the ball into that side he wasn’t able to inflict any damage.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
If you’ve seen the assists in question you do find yourself pondering how much value can be ascribed to them. I just don’t think most of them would be replicable against PL defences.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 9:55 amThat Wijndal fella seems to have excellent stats as an attacking player with 10 assists this season and more key passes per game than any of our attacking midfielders.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I do hope this ain't a summer of bulls#it and that we don't dither on one target and let others go like in the past, let's hope like other clubs negotiations have already started for targets and get answers now so that we can move on, don't want to be hearing the crap the right players ain't out there or we tried, it's cost us in the past and it will cost us again.
We need to build a team around rice Bowen johnston and the rest, let the players go who don't fit and really go for it moyes seems to get the best out of players back him and let's see
