He's not quite a 10, but also not a slap-in-the-middle CM. He's not Iniesta, but he takes a similar role. Would love to see him there myself.BrumHammer wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 5:52 pm I would be happy to see Fornals in a more central role, I think he'd excel at it.

Has there been mention of Watford's Emmanuel Dennis on this thread recently ? I really don't know much about him, but he's getting linked with us. Thoughts anyone ?
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I don’t think they’re bad at defending, other than TAA, but the above defenders play in teams who have the ball more than we do and whose starting positions are 20-30 yards further forward than our full-backs. They also attack a lot more than they defend.Aceface wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 5:59 pm I think there is a tendency to underrate the defensive ability of a lot of the top-end fullbacks. I think partly because there's an assumption that if you're good in attack you're automatically weak in defence. Its something that will be repeated ad nauseam all summer.
Trent "TRENT" Alexander-Arnold is the obvious exception – he really isn't any good at it – but the likes of Cancelo, Walker, Reece James, Robertson, Chilwell, Shaw, Tierney are all attack-minded fullbacks who are perfectly good at the defensive side, and all probably better at defending – or at least no worse – than either of the options we have on the left. So we certainly wouldn't get rinsed any more than we already do if we slotted them into our team.
Bowen said just last week Cancelo was the toughest defensive opponent he's played against and was taken by surprise at how good he was at it having assumed that he was – and I'm paraphrasing here – just a mincing attacking wuss.
If we wanted to match Liverpool, which someone had suggested earlier, we would need to bring in another central midfielder 1) to keep the ball better, and 2) to protect the central defenders and cover the full-backs when they bomb forward.

You are David Sullivan and I claim my £5.BrumHammer wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 4:31 pm Watching Southampton the other night, we could do worse than try to bring in Nathan Redmond after a poor Southampton season, especially if we lost Bowen. No idea what they'd want for him though.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Kral certainly has not justified a fee.
Given it looks like the Ukraine crisis is not ending any time soon I wonder what will happen with foreign players registered to Russian clubs? I suspect it would be difficult if not impossible do a deal for Kral even if we wanted what with sanctions etc, one of the Oligarchs is bound to be connected to his club.
If his contract is in essence deemed terminated by FIFA would we revisit his signing if “free”?

judging by what we've seen, it would STILL be a waste of money !!!!!!!Gsbgsb wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 7:16 pm Kral certainly has not justified a fee.

Kral is the first out of the door next Monday!
Dennis for a modest fee coming in with a nunez broja toney or Watkins would be good. 24 years and scoring in the PL

He’s been excellent when I’ve seen him play this season and with that hair he really stands out!
Would love him with us.

I'd still rather take a bowling ball to the nuts from Al Snow during the Attitude Era than us sign Broja.

Cucerella was the stand out player for me at our place earlier in the season. No surprise that City might be Iinterested.Derby Hammer wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 8:14 pm He’s been excellent when I’ve seen him play this season and with that hair he really stands out!

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Were linked with Zinchenko, I wonder if he is a Masuaku upgrade and we plan to play more of a back 5 next season.
I still think Zinchenko could do a job at left back and Left wing back.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
hate to disagree, but Zinchencko is a LW playing at LWB and won't make a LB imvho. look how easily he lost Bowen for our 1st
and if we are planning on playing 3 at the back, we need 5 CB's as an injury to 1 of 4 leaves you with no one on the bench. been there, done that.
and Coufal isn't a RWB imvho. nor is Johnson. so we'd effectively be looking at another RB. we already have more NEEDS than I think we're going to actually cover. no point in adding 2 more.

Zinchenko is a midfielder.
He'd be murdered playing left back for any other team, he plays in Midfield for Ukraine.
I'd take him in midfield though.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Yeah and there’s me thinking Redmond would be a perfect player for Mighty Norwich. Were we not loosely linked with Redmond before his last move, I wasn’t overly taken then and we were pretty rubbish back then with survival the main priority. Indeed if Bowen left for the massive fee he would attract and we replaced him with Redmond that would truly be a Sullivan move par excellence a hefty profit and a player replacement who might help us avoid relegation. Geez is that our new level now? Truly back to the future.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Be surprised if we signed him as a midfielder
I would be surprised if we signed him but maybe as said above gives us options to play different formations
