Born in Italy, but didn't Bassey grow up in Newham? Before Leicester he played for East London based CM Futsal Academy?

I’d go out and get both Bassey and Wijndal. Would give us plenty of pace, power and flexibility at LCB, LB & LWB, for whichever formation Moyes wants to go with.

Both 22 and highly rated, would cost under £20m combined and would be on relatively low wages.

I know it’s not going to happen but would set us up nicely long-term.

I generally like the policy of buying young players that can grow with the club and have their best years ahead of them. However, every so often I think a Fergie special can add something - a player that is in the autumn of their career but who oozes class (Sheringham).

My leftfield suggestion of the month is us putting our hat in the ring for Gareth Bale….

Thing is, Bale's game relies on pace and he is terribly injury prone.

I've long had faith in Pope.
My man is a bigger handful who is capable of the bra-vest of stops. No one will say Areola sucks!

Not true. These days his game relies more on length off the tee and clutch putting.

Seen very little of him but that performance the other night was eye catching
Rangers' best player, according to some folk I know. Certainly in terms of age/potential.

His bunker game is severely underrated!

Yep, round the back of Wanstead Flats. Leytonstone/Forest Gate/Manor Park area. Right on our doorstep. Certainly would be classed as a local boy.

Grew up with a poster of Matthew Upson on his wall. He’s one of our own! :crossed:

I think Bassey is classed as homegrown having come over to England at 15.
Was apparently eligible to play for England before choosing Nigeria.

Bassey has been selected by UEFA in their team of the tournament for the Europa League. Shows that he is consistent and that his performance in the final wasn't a one off. That he is a "local" lad also adds to it for me. I am therefore IN.

Interesting news on Calvin Bassey.

Do we think we’re interested as left back or centre back? Will we have the same thing as Ben Johnson on the other side - very solid defensively but won’t be rampaging forward? Could Moyes be planning to move to three at the back (Johnson RCB, Bassey LCB with Zouma in the middle)?

No chance Rashford comes here. He'll have pick of big European teams. Only chance is if he loves Moyes...

Bassey, very fast and skilful. Not sure how good he as a defender having to sit back for majority of game.

Arthur Melo, didn't he cost 70 odd million? Good player though, we want better quality so he'd fit that catagory. If we can get him for cheap or a loan.

With Bassey we could play a higher line and compress he play higher up the field.

Interesting about the young rangers player

Can’t imagine he would come here as first choice cb so maybe left back to compete with cresswell??

Moyes pulling another Joleon Lescott? Played him at left back for a while before he moved into the centre.

Hopefully this is Newmanball in full effect. Would be delighted with these two signings, but perhaps need a bit more experience in the back-line?

When I was in Lyon, one of our supporters, who seemed well connected with someone at the club, suggested we had tied up deals for two Man U players who were England internationals. One clearly being Lingard but he wasn’t very willing to reveal the other one. After a bit of cajoling and a few beers later however it came out that the other is Rashford.

Appreciate you coming on here to tell us that - if true they would be the two most exciting signings since Tevez and Mascherano .

I had the feeling that Pezza was talking about ' Free Transfers ' when he said that 2 were in the bag and although that could mean Lingard , Rashford would certainly not come free - Sam Johnstone could be the other ?

As for Marcus Rashford , now that would be something wouldn't it ?

Pacey , skilful and despite not scoring that many this season he's capable of some spectacular strikes .

How much would he cost - £60m ...£50m ? With the season he's just had he'd be a bit of a risky signing but if we got him at a good price or Loan With A View To Buy then we'd be one of the Premier League's most exciting sides .

18/1 with Sky just now....I'm tempted .

Agreed, although we do have Ogbonna coming back from injury and Cresswell in and around the match day squad. I’d still be looking out for a very good CB to come in alongside the above. I do think the defence needs a bit of a shake up:

I would let Masuaku and Diop go and bring in Wijndal, Bassey & Aguerd (or a left-sided CB like him).

Wijndal, Bassey, Cresswell, Aguerd, Ogbonna, Zouma, Dawson, Coufal, Johnson - would give us a lot more balance and strength in depth.

I’d then focus next summer on a long term-replacement(s) for Ogbonna, Dawson & Coufal (if Johnson hasn’t made that step up to make the position his own).

The hardest of no to Rashford. His focus is clearly outside of football.
