A good player BUT we have Benny, Fornals, Lanzini (Lingard?) and even possibly Antonio who are left sided forwards. On the right we have Bowen and tumbleweed.Danny's Dyer Acting wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:09 pmMy considered opinions on Aguerd after watching half of this video.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
One key consideration if we are looking to get JWP out of Southampton is the club's owners. They are 80% owned by a company that involves Rasmus Ankersen who was a key part of Brentford's rise from League 1 to the Premier League. They have a strong 'buy low, sell high' mentality as they have complete faith in their analytics and ability to sign replacement players at a fraction of the price of the ones that left. They have a value of each of their players and once that price is met they very usually get sold - think of Brentford with Maupay, Watkins & Benrahma. When he was involved at Brentford they were as close to 'Moneyball' as you can get. Think of how they replaced their forwards and consistently found another who usually ended scoring more goals than the player they sold - think Ivan Toney. They also have one of the smallest budgets in the Premier League and have targeted younger players such as Livramento & Broja & Salisu who they can develop and look to sell at a mich higher price (or in Broja's case, try and get him to stay, or just get such a good loan deal that it's worth doing). It all depends on how much their analytics rate the importance of JWP's set-piece delivery which Guardiola said was the 'best in the world' this season. I'd expect them to want a good price for him but I'd be highly surprised if it would take £65m.
Also Aguerd for all of his distribution abilities is painfully slow.

Cannot say I have ever paid attention to Aguerd but from the video (you tube I know) he looked the sort of player we should be considering.
Left sided (clearly and perhaps exclusively), decent in the air, decent pace, good reading of the tackle and good distribution.
It is what the video does not show of course that really matters. He does seem willing to go tight high up the pitch but he seems also to be willing to wait for the forward to receive the ball then tackle as opposed to try to get ahead of the striker to take it which is the issue with Diop’s brain farts in this regard when he misses it then gets caught out of position.

Boubakar Soumare apparently being sold by Leicester one year after joining. Was at Lille getting rave reviews and winning the title in France for the couple of seasons before joining.
Big red warning sign there for Villa fans getting giddy over Kamara.

Concern here is if he doesn’t get in the England World Cup squad we will have a 30 year old on £7m a year with questionable motivation if todays numbers are right. If Villa are mad to pay same wages to a 22 year old just breaking into the French team and who they’d get their money back on at contract end, what does that make us paying Jesse that money. Don’t get me wrong I’d like him back, but only on a performance related basis, big results equal top money, but no more Lundberesque final pension deals, thought we’d moved on from that.Hamburger wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:07 pmWill Lingard even be the same player we had after 18 months and 30yo soon? He can't get in the Manure team but can waltz into our starting 11? He was apparently prepared to go to Newcastle for the money before they lost interest? Naah, not for me. Get a younger, hungrier player that wants the shirt for half the salary.

From those clips, which I spent over an hour examining Aguerd looks very composed. On some, I made the attacker attacker in the ascendancy, but he timed his tackles to perfection. That makes him a very good reader of the game, he didn't panic once and was very composed on the ball. If those are anything to go by, I'd say he would be a brilliant addition

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Why does anyone think that Lingard would have motivational issues? As there been any evidence of this in his career? He always has come across as a model pro who wanted to stay at his club and fight for his place. He has deserved far more starts this year than he has been given imo.
I'd love to know where people's concerns are coming from.

Shared both because it is interesting, highlights the importance of Ogbonna/a proper left sided centre back, and cos I love Jack

My larger concern is that our record for bringing players back for a second spell, and for bringing in someone after a loan spell, is decidedly mixed…1895Hammer wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:30 pmConcern here is if he doesn’t get in the England World Cup squad we will have a 30 year old on £7m a year with questionable motivation if todays numbers are right. If Lingard is available at the fees suggested for me it is a no brainer.1895Hammer wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:30 pmConcern here is if he doesn’t get in the England World Cup squad we will have a 30 year old on £7m a year with questionable motivation if todays numbers are right. You have a solid known product to step straight in giving you the pace, running in behind etc you have been missing. You can then go and get a youngster (eg a KLP) and give them time to develop and grow over the years we have Jessie (perhaps enabling them to become the next great young thing) without immediately having to expose them to the pressures of performing in the PL.
If we do not get Lingard then we are likely to need to spend bigger on a proven product to play there (probably on not a lot less wages than the £100k, maybe a saving of £1m a year) making it less likely we could also afford the youngster and in essence you have 1 player when you could have had 2.
On Watkins I think this all might be his agent angling for a new deal. He has seen what the players have come in on last summer, January and now (basically £80k minimum last summer and silly money January/now) when he is apparently on £44k a week (shame I know etc) yet seen as vital.

I doubt he's any quicker than Ogbonna or Zouma. Have you seen him play a full 90 or just YouTube clips?hammerman11 wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:30 pmAguerd isn't slow . Quicker than our defenders apart from diop
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Were things to go our way Sunday and Forrest lose I would be more than happy if our summer striking business was Lingard, KLP and Johnson.
Add them to Antonio, Bowen and Benrahma then for me the front 3 positions would be well taken care of for next season albeit we might not have the “striker” some seem to fixate on.
