Not sure he even played in the MLS for long as he was young when Bayern signed him, but he's effectively having the career that was speculated about for Freddy Adu back in the day.
65 first team appearances for Vancouver plus the time he spent in their academy.

The player has to want £150k per week for Villa to be interested.

It's kind of how "Ex" operates though isn't? Says stuff like this re a player we are heavily linked with - then we sign him in a few weeks he'll be retweeting the original tweet with "pair of eyes" emoji. Or if we don't and people ask it'll be "player / agent / club moved the goalposts.

Can't believe people pay for this

Apologies if this has been posted already but his distribution does look pretty **** hot.

Could work out very well if he hits Bowen or Coufal (if he is still here) with those sorts of passes, the Rice/Coufal dynamic has been pretty good towards the end of this season and could imagine this lad also linking up well.

Championship level defensively though.
And there we have the explanation why he's looked like crap over here - it's not that the barcodes were crap (though they were) it's that he's playing teams who know how to defend

I like the look of this Aguerd lad. Fast, tall, strong, and I like the way from those clips he likes to drive forward at pace with the ball when turning it over, much like a certain Basmati fellow in our midfield.

The sort of player who would certainly help us get back to being good on the counter, whilst being more solid defensively.

Watching that video, I can't help but think we'd benefit from a right-back with a lot more pace.

If we're going for a player it's because we've scouted them and we believe he has the ability and mental acumen to succeed... not because he has scored a lot in the MLS.
Totally agree.

I think a touch of reality is needed from time to time. Wealthy, we ain't.

We have to bring in players that will improve, little by little plus the odd academy player.

Bowen, Antonio, Johnson. All done pretty well up to now.

It is a gamble, of course but so are some of the big players.

If Moyes think that a certain player is worth bringing in then I will go with that.

Indeed, but you’d think Bowen watched it with some interest….

I am Legend wrote: Thu May 26, 2022 12:00 pm Does no one here watch MLS? I started watching it full time when Atlanta United were formed (my NFL team is Atlanta Falcons). The league has improved vastly these last 5 years. Influx of Europeans and South American young players and coaches has really upped the quality.

The league is far better than I see people giving it credit for. Defensively its still got a way to go but the youth coming through US academies now is 10x what it was 5-10 years ago. The whole league is doing very well. Championship level defensively though.

Managers like Tata Martino really helped bring that league up a notch. Coaching now is about technique and skill, rather than brute strength and toughness. That's the effect the foreign coaches are having.
Definitely agree with all this. My wife is from Portland, OR and I've been a Timbers fan for as long as I've known her.

Managed to get to the Timbers vs Kansas game recently, and whilst there were some good players it did end 7-2 with 2 red cards... bit of a mad game. The quality has definitely jumped from the MLS of the 90s/00s.

What you should be looking for in the MLS is a player who looks miles sharper/faster than the rest – it is a significantly slower league than the PL.

Yesterday someone shared a video of Aguerd running box to box in 7 seconds. About 100 yards? So 90 metres? In 7 seconds?

And it went unquestioned

Are we saying it was fake? Or are we saying he's a 100m sprint record holder?

Bit less than that I think - a little above 70 metres, isn't it?

Based upon the LOS, which is 115 yards in length, minus the two penalty areas (36 yards) so box-to-box = 79 yards (72m).

Still some going, mind.

Actually I've just watched it again - it does seem to have been speeded up a little

Obviously the speed he's running at in relation to the players around him remains the same though

It's not too obvious with Aguerd himself due to his stride, but look at the two opposition players ahead of him as soon as they start running. Definitely looks speeded up.

I've seen plenty of our fans do that running for the bar at HT tbf.

He starts in the box! I can’t believe we’ve quietly unearthed a CB in France who’s running Usain Bolt speeds!
