There’s no transfer strategy with Villa. They just throw a bunch of money at players with a half decent reputation and hope for the best.
Odds on Gerrard sacked by Christmas and Villa to finish bottom half?

Just read a Villa site similar to hammers news, they seem to think they’re recouping 75m in player sales, without selling Watkins or McGinn

Surely they need Europa this season to stay onside of FFP? Theres no way they can spend the amount they do and wages they do and stay within FFP, their wage structure must be f*cked

Not the Seville centre back I'd be spending big money on...
Villa getting it done early like last season i see... they better hope it is to better effect

Buendia and Sanson are two players that spring to mind. Not sure how they get anywhere near £75m without selling one or both of Watkins or Mcginn though
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Villa fans must be losing their crud right now!
Let’s hope they crash and burn.

Ye Sanson was one. The other were the likes of Traore, Targett, El Ghazi…
I think they’re forgetting you can’t have a squad of only 11 players.
If we Villa and West Ham both spent 150m this summer, we’d be levels above them.

And they buy a load of rubbish.
Every single season they've been back in the Premier League people on this site have bemoaned us missing out on the players they've signed, and every single season their signings have been mostly useless.

And it’s also always a load of crap, it’s done without fuss because they pay ridiculously over the top in both fee’s and wages. They will be in huge trouble in a couple of years if they fail to qualify for top 6 at least. Nothing to hand to them at all.
Honestly… we’ve basically confirmed that we’ve secured a much needed left sided CB today as well.

A net spend of around 275m since they got promoted according to transfer markt (Including the 100m for grealish) and god knows what the wage bill looks like now.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 5:31 pm And they buy a load of rubbish.

Spending 375m and having the team they currently have is criminal. Good luck to them.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Villa are going to be this years Everton, aren't they? As in, the green eyed envy towards them because we ain't got who they've got, and then they bomb...
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
That’s your opinion that’s it’s a load of crap ain’t it einstein. I think they should have been cut some slack last season personally, they lost their captain, talisman & easily their best player. Yeah they spent that money but I think losing Grealish was always gonna knock ‘em for six a bit, it could easily happen to us when we lose Rice or any other side if they lost someone so influential. But you have to hand it to em for the way they seem prepared to back Gerrard, will it work who knows but fair play for giving it another crack.BigFatSam wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 5:31 pm And it’s also always a load of crap, it’s done without fuss because they pay ridiculously over the top in both fee’s and wages. Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Everything being said about Villa was being said this time last year and beyond about them.........
They finished 14th.
People never learn.
"Winning" a transfer window normally equates to not very much. Ask Fulham, they "won" a summer transfer window not so far back.........they got relegated on the back of it.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Villa seem to buy Primark players at Harrods prices and some are staggered that it gets done so quickly. Hand and bite off come to mind.
Given how their 21-22 signings panned out I think we did well to dodge the bullets.
Watkins is the only one I would like in our squad, the rest would upset our squad spirit I suspect.

No it does not.hammernsickle wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 11:07 am This completely ignores what Bissouma is so good at - winning the ball back all over the pitch and recycling possession to a teammate to start attacking all over again.
He also shows for the ball and gives an outlet for passing then moves it on for others with simple short passes.
He helps retain possession of the ball, especially when his team are under pressure, something we are at times criminally negligent about.
I'd be interested to see how many of their goals came from Bissouma winning the ball and the resulting pass starting a string of passes that leads to a goal. He is absolutely dynamic and can run a midfield by himself similar to Kante.
When Phillips is in his groove, he's similar, but he's closer to a traditional DM positionally but with a greater range passing. The value of Phillips is home grown, already has a relationship with Rice, and would free Rice to do his galloping runs and Soucek to break forward and put his potato noggin on the ball.
I don't think we have a chance with either, but either would improve us immensely.
I rate Bissouma as one of the best DM’s in the PL but he is not an “all around” midfielder as was suggested. Rice’s galloping runs forward do not often amount to a goal. He is actually a far better Bissouma. If, because of his contract situation, you get Bissouma now because Rice is off next summer then that is forward planning but do not expect us to suddenly be a better side because we have him.
To play a midfielder like Bissouma then we need far better attacking midfielders than we have if we are going to use his skill to win and recycle because they will be the players who benefit form Bissouma’s strengths. Were he in behind the likes of the Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs type of teams then he would really shine right now.
We cannot have the lack of output to break down teams that sit in against us at home like we have had this year from Benrahma, Fornals, Lanzini or indeed Rice if he is going to be the CM pushed forward with a Bissouma signing. There is feck all use winning the ball and recycling it to them if they then do next to nothing with it. We will be back to looking pretty and being pretty ineffective as well. Very much as Brighton have been for a lot of this season at home.
I understand the need to develop from what we are and become more of a “footballing” side if we want to press on but as someone said it is a lot harder to go from 7 to top 6 than 14 to 7. This window I simply do not think replacing the likes of Benrahma, Lanzini and, to a lesser extent, Fornals with the quality required to enable this change in style and still challenge for Europe is feasible given the other needs of the squad and our likely budget.
Solidify at the back, add the pace sadly lacking going forward then next summer you can focus on the quality midfielders needed to adapt how we play as the other parts will be in place. It will be the next area to address.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Our best player's are better than Villa's best players - but they have more strength in depth and a bigger squad. I would happily take Watkins and Ings from them, and also think they've got decent full-backs.
Gerrard is very inexperienced at this level though so will be interesting.

Villa agree to sign Carlos for £26M (may have already been posted)
Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Brazil centre-back Diego Carlos from Sevilla for £26m.
The 29-year-old, who was a Newcastle transfer target in January, will travel to England on Thursday for a medical and to finalise personal terms.
