Hacker Pschorr Munchner Dunkel here

Hacker Pschorr must be the b*llocks. Had three good beers by them now and every GCRO review is 10/10

If it's Belgian and easily available, then Duvel is infinitely better if you like that banana and clove flavour. Oh and it's 8.5% too!

mate, you're a star. cheers

I enjoying listening to people's views on all sorts of stuff. I love American IPA's probably a lot more than GCRO. in fact he probably considers that an oxymoron.

:crylol:

really enjoy his opinions and IF, that's a great big IF, I can find one or more on my next trip back to the US, it would be good to see if I agree or not.

in fact a his reviews are lot like Elsie's movie and tv reviews - Marmite !!!!!!!!!

It's all personal taste isn't it but for me, the fruity stuff is ****.

However, the west coast stuff is absolutely awesome. Maximum bitterness from hops etc, love it. That original Sierra Nevada stuff in green bottles was an absolute god send when I first had it and the local supermarket stocked it (and still do). GCRO gave it 10/10 too, but I think the history of it was a big part of that rating too.

trusting the memory a bit TOO much, but when I was bartending, which would have been 30 years ago maybe, I'm pretty sure Sierra Nevada was the first beer we had from the West Coast but I'm sure it wasn't an IPA. might have been the pale ale.

however, we sold the **** out of it. it really took off and we could hardly keep it in.

as I say, I'm trusting a not very good memory. have had several IPAs more recent than that, and imvho, they're excellent. had to google it, it would have been the Torpedo I'm pretty sure.

as mentioned several times. Lagunitas is one of my very favs. been 4 years since my last trip so I've gotten into several local (and I mean Ecuadorian) IPAs.

in an article dated 2018 I think it listed 100 micro breweries here. of course not every one of them are excellent or even good.

there's a couple of really good places here Latitud Cero who are from Quiito obviously. they have a location downtown and they have bottles and on tap stuff.

https://www.cervecerialatitudcero.com/nuestros-locales/

there's another pizza place close to where I used to live, that's managed by this Welsh bloke and they normally run about 20 tap beers going of which quite a few are IPAs.

https://www.facebook.com/11ecuador/

couple of American lads do their own thing

https://www.facebook.com/thepubcuenca/

there's a really good, imvho Belgian place too knocking out quality beer

https://www.facebook.com/jodocobelgianbrew

their foods pretty darn good too.

not exactly London, or even Texas but they both do a smashing pint.

https://happygringo.com/blog/craft-beer-in-ecuador/

usually it's about 5-6 US dollars a pint which is our local currency anyways.

hoping to get a trip to Miami (have an unused ticket from pre-covid which I want to use before too long. smoke a couple of cigars and sup a few brews, enjoy the ocean for a couple of weeks !!!

Sierra Nevada basically invented that whole USA West Coast IPA thing in an attempt to copy English pale ales. They just used American hops which due to the geology, climate and most importantly the flora of Seattle where the hops were grown produced a uniquely flavoured beer. The later US brewers shouldn't have called that style "IPA" though because it really doesn't resemble an English IPA one bit.

I'm surprised that's allowed in Scotland and Wales given the minimum price per unit is 50p. Unless Greene King don't have any sites there.
