Re: England cricket 2022
Never seen test cricket like it. If he was dead, poor old Geoffrey Boycott would be turning in his grave.

Re: England cricket 2022
Fantastic series
At various points in each game NZ had their opportunity to kick on but was nice for a change to see England win from a few awkward positions
Just need to find an excellent opening batsman
Leach did well he could be getting better but a class spinner would be good

Wheel in Buttler. (tell me it didn't work for Afridi and Gayle).Larrakeyah Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 11:07 pm Fantastic series

Buttler in red ball just doesn't work.
Plus I think he's about to get a lot busier in the white ball format...

Crawley just seems to have turned into a rabbit in headlights - if he's not getting himself out, he's terrifying his team mates all the time he's at the crease.

Re: England cricket 2022
Morgan did okay as white ball captain didn't he?
Whoever takes over has big shoes to fill. Transformed the white ball side, won us a world cup and would have probably won the T20 world Cup last year if we had a few more fit bowlers.

Changed captaincy in the white ball games. I think he’ll be seen as that influential. Pleased he’s chosen to go now, rather than be pushed. He can step aside and watch these players he’s had a major part in developing flourish.

Re: England cricket 2022
Morgan really has helped change the face of English cricket.
Butler has been primed for it for years... which is partly why he should be kept away from the Test team (let him focus)
Crawley is very lucky the period between naming the next squad and the end of this match was so short... but if (when) he continues to perform so poorly (he looks shot to pieces right now) I would expect it to be his last inclusion for a while. Burns, Sibley or Compton to come in. Imagine the way we have been playing with a couple of good openers to go with the rest of the batting line up.

Stepped down after a backlash from BBC staff, I read.Bend it like Repka wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 12:01 pm Vaughan stepping down again due to pressure from diversity group in BBC....
Also, is it bizarre or just a coincidence TMS colleague and former English cricketer Isa Guha has been covering Wimbledon since Monday?

I thought it was down to grief he's getting and will get once India roll into town. Already gets dogs abuse (some of it deserved) from Indian cricket fans.
I reckon he'll return during the S.A. series.

Re: England cricket 2022
I can't find the interview now but saw some interesting comments from McCullum about the approach the test team are taking.
The theory is to keep pushing with this aggressive style until it fails/breaks to let individuals learn where their own limits are. I think that's a very similar approach to the way Morgan & coaches turned the white ball team around, there were a few examples in the early days where they lost games or didn't quite get the total they should have because they just went foot down the entire time.
Should be a fun summer while they work out where those limits are

Re: England cricket 2022
England team to face India:
Zak Crawley, Alex Lees, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Sam Billings (wk), Matthew Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson.
Crawley keeps his place amazingly and Anderson back so Overton misses out after a brilliant debut Test against NZ. I’d of been tempted to keep him in and ask him if he fancies opening with Lees, personally. Especially after that knock of 98. Billings in for Foakes who just still be injured.
KL Rahul out for them and possibly Rohit (covid) which would be huge. Bumrah will stand in as temporary captain if so.
I’m up there for 3 days tomorrow at one of ours’ stag do. Birmingham lock up your daughters and I’m sure I’ll be needing a liver transplant by Monday.
