Is anyone going?
I’ve got a ticket for Wales v Iran in Doha. How am I getting there? Where am I staying? God only knows…

No you weren't. Match is scheduled for 26 November at ten in the effin morning our time. Wales beat Iran 0-1 in 1978. Last days of the Shah.

Re: Is anyone going?
Yes all 3 England group games.
Amount of people that died building Wembley about the same.
Amount of foreign workers forced to work in the job until completed i.e polish Romanian about the same.
Stadium was delayed when they went on strike and left the job and were made homeless.
Don't understand the fuss really.
Lovely air conditioned stadiums be cooler than here next weekend.
Looking forward to it. The whole point of a WORLD cup not to be held in England every 4 years is it.
Hint... The world.of.football doesn't revolve around England.

1966. It was illegal to be gay in this country you would be arrested.
Any different to Qatar???
How were we allowed to host it then in 66??
Same rules but now uproar over it and the same laws we had in place 56 years ago

Re: Is anyone going?
You said it yourself, that was 56 years ago, times change, the status quo has moved on. Persecution wasn't right then and it certainly isn't now. Bear in mind that since the late '50s the prevailing wind in the UK was that the law needed to change and it did in '67. Although it's not implemented the death penalty can still be implemented right now in Qatar for same-sex sexual activity, many people live in fear there and don't have rights that the majority take for granted. The more uproar the better.

Re: Is anyone going?
I'm not going now. I didn't book flights in time. They've let me sell my ticket back to them. Wales will qualify again.

Re: Is anyone going?
It is a disgrace in general. The date it is being played, the conditions, the corruption and the outrageous exploitation of labour. Yes many sports cannot claim to be free of such links, but this World Cup is right at the bottom of the sewer.
As someone who watched his first world cup in 74 aged 6, I've watched every one as the great sporting spectacle that it is. However I've been wondering morally how I can sit though this one.
Of course any protest I make will not affect FIFA a jot, but that's not really the points is it?
Let alone not going, at present I've decided I'm not watching any of Englands group games as a start on TV. Whether I'll crack down the line I don't know but at least I'm doing something in my mind.
Personally I'd love to see all the England team play with a black armband on to note the amount of deaths involved in putting on this event.
