I mean, he has made his career as a left back. People may think he doesn't have the ideal attributes for the position, but it is where he plays.steveyrockstar wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:20 pm I'm not even convinced Emerson is a LB. People keep telling me he's a wing-back and not an orthodox LB, and it seemed (potentially) quite telling when Moyes replaced the injured Cresswell vs Spurs with Oggy rather than Emerson.
Personally, I don't actually know. It's just what others have said.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
The commentator said we'd stuck with a flat back 4 when Cresswell came off. If he had changed the formation, then totally fair enough.westlondonhammer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:23 pm He changed to a back 3
So it seems pretty logical to have bought Ogbonna on, no?
The fella can play both
Online
Fornals was basically left wingback and Emerson took his role when he came on.
It was quite fluid, but the heatmap shows a clear 3.

I’d say it was a 3 even when Cresswell was on. He just had license to overlap with Soucek or Rice then dropping back.steveyrockstar wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:35 pm The commentator said we'd stuck with a flat back 4 when Cresswell came off. If he had changed the formation, then totally fair enough.

It was a back 3 (or 5 when defending) from the start.westlondonhammer wrote: ↑Fri Sep 02, 2022 5:23 pm He changed to a back 3

Fornals and Coufal playing as wingbacks.
Cresswell, Zouma and Kehrer as CB's.
Ogbonna replaced Cresswell at LCB.
Emerson replaced Fornals LWB.
You could see all 5 in a line throughout the game when Tottenham had the ball.
At no point did we play 4 at the back.
