Just had a 5.1 here in SF. Weird one. Not the usual chugga-chugga rhythmic rumble, but a spasmodic jerking one. Very much like a muscle spasm. But in the earth. And a bigger muscle. :winker:

It didn't feel like a 5.1 tbh. I was surprised it registered that high. It was just a tickle really.

This reminds me of my boss, who was in the earthquake that hit the north of England in 2008. He only realised there had been an earthquake later that day when he saw it on the news, and couldn't work out how he didn't notice it.

Then he remembered: he was having a J Arthur Rank at the time.

The earthquake in Turkey is looking like becoming a major human catastrophe. It is awful to know people are buried in freezing temperatures.

I just watched a video of the port city of Iskenderun with loads of collapsed buildings. I suspect thousands dead from those buildings alone. That's one town. We need to be prepared for massive loss of life and then the homeless situation both there and Syria.

Israel troops have agreed to help in Syria after a request from president Assad.

I will try and link the video from sky news

Hate to imagine what the final death toll will be, I do think sometimes we take for granted the fact we live in this country where the risk of being affected by natural disasters is significantly lower than most

Earthquakes are just the Earth letting us know we're dispensable & to stop acting the maggot...
The poor people that live there though, & especially Syria, what more can they endure...

Some of the aftershocks have been as big. The videos I've seen are staggering and very humbling. In a matter of seconds entire communities are essentially evaporated. I hope the international community mobilizes in the best possible way as quickly as it can. Hundreds of thousands or more will need help immediately.

Images, video and reports coming out are truly heartbreaking. Hopefully the Russians and China step up for the Syrian people and don't play politics.
