I must be the only one who doesn't see it with him. Little flicks to other players are the easiest thing to do. He doesn't look to have that strikers instinct to me. He looks a bit of a carthorse if I'm honest.blahblahblah wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 8:28 pm Watching Italy v England. Italy are horrible, but Scamacca has been excellent at holding up the ball and laying it off to another runner.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
little flicks to other players and putting home good crosses and corners is how you score easy goals, we keep obsessing over the mythical striker who is going to run 40 yards with the ball and score every time instead of building a complete attack.DannyboyDJL wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 9:04 pm I must be the only one who doesn't see it with him. Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I think he's been good with not much help from those around him. held the ball up well, nice touches, played in a couple of chances for team mates..could have scored that header early doors, beat Maguire all ends up. Pope made a good save.
carthorse ?

And England without a first half goal in five games. It is like Moyes is manager of both sides

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
I'm genuinely not fishing.
Time will tell I guess, but he's a target man and didn't get a single assist in 35+ games in the league last year. That worries me. He scored 16 goals and 0 assists.
Raspodori got 10 goals and 6 assists.
Berardi got 15 goals and 17 assists.
I'll be amazed if he gets 5 goals in the league this year.
Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
If moyes was manager of two sides playing each other..he would have a w..k over a 0-0 result

that's a bit like saying the old Michael Jordan quoteDannyboyDJL wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 9:33 pm

who is the only person to hold Michael Jordan to less than 20 points a game ?
Dean Smith (his coach at North Carolina)
he won't get more than 5 goals if Moyes doesn't get his arse off the bench..
this is a REALLY REALLY REALLY poor performance by both teams in general and England in particular.
no goals again from open play. well none in this game at all...

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
He had 13 touches - fewest of any starter.
He made 7 passes - fewest of any starter.
He doesn't get involved enough for me.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
He would have probably already been well on the way to 5 if started in the league with the other new signings...DannyboyDJL wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 9:33 pm I'm genuinely not fishing.

I think the bloke looks class, played well tonight and unlucky with the header from that angle.
Only 23 and leading the line for Italy and West Ham in Europe so far... Just needs to proper time with the other players in the league, already seems to be building rapport with Cornet in Europe so looks promising

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
He started against Villa, then unfortunately fell ill.
Whilst he was ill Antonio Assisted against Tottenham, scored against Chelsea, then came off the bench to score against FCSB. Based on that it made absolute sense for Antonio to start against Everton, he'd earned it.
Had Scamacca not been ill I'm sure he'd have started more games for us.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
He has goals in him but he needs chances. He has played 167 minutes in the league this season.
I think Antonio starting vs Everton was correct based on the previous few games. But now is time for Scamacca. Has to start vs Wolves and we need to find a way to use him. Starting putting some decent crosses in when wide and play to his feet when central.

The issue is that would require Moyes to actually play players who are capable of passing and crossing.El brooko79 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 23, 2022 11:35 pmStarting putting some decent crosses in when wide and play to his feet when central.

Re: ✍ Gianluca Scamacca
Truly is crazy, isn't it? Our crossing is so poor. What is going on with the coaching? People complain that Johnson can't cross, Cresswell is to slow and and doesn't get into crossing positions often enough anymore, Coufal's crossing ahs worsened, Bowen is totally out of form, Benrahma's is a bit erratic but often too flat and low, and Antonio's isn't bad but he's never on the pitch with Scamacca. I'm still not in the Moyes out camp (though have been very critical of him and will remain so until he takes his head out of his arse) but the coaching staff needs a shake up. Cant see him doing it though. If the layers really like Moyes and believe in him, they too of course need to take responsibiity and start playing for him. Maybe Scamacca with some service can save Moyes his job. Cornet and Antonio as wide men better for him?
