On its way to becoming law in Louisiana...
Women who get abortions will face the same charges as anyone who commits murder, as will the doctors who help them...

I still can’t get my head around it. Religious nutcases the lot of them. I’m sort of glad it don’t understand to be honest. Taliban would be proud.Shabu wrote: ↑Tue Sep 20, 2022 6:46 pm On its way to becoming law in Louisiana...

Wouldn’t put it past them. (But they’ll be allowed to have them, can’t have their mistresses up the duff. )
We are not far from stoning women in the town square for extra-marital sex. Start throwing homosexuals from buildings and the journey is complete.

Re: US Abortion Laws
Meanwhile, here in Liberal forward thinking San Diego another mega church (5,000+ worshippers at once) is probably being put up in an area that was meant for 24 houses. And we really need more housing.
These churches have their own schools so they can indocrinate your kids from aged 3 to 18, gyms, counselling, cafe´s restaurants etc tec so your never have to spend time with the unwashed heathens.
They keep growing & we´ll keep seeing more tough old Testament bible laws spreading across America.
And if it happens in the US you can be sure the UK will follow, just like obesity, chewing gum, saying AWESOME, Like & literally when you literally dont mean Literally.
Like literally god is awesome & anyone who says otherwise should be stoned to death. By a fetus.

Re: US Abortion Laws
Yes, quite likely.
It doesn't get mentioned enough how much attitudes have shifted and polarised in a generation. Back in the 70s the only group universally against abortion in the US was (obviously) Catholics. A lot of traditional conservatives welcomed Roe v. Wade whereas some Democrats (like Biden) thought it was too extreme.
What's changed in the meantime? Have read some informed speculation that many conservatives were in favour of abortion when they thought it would be used primarily by those from poorer and ethnic backgrounds and were shocked to find that better-off white women were just as likely to access abortion services.
In a nutshell, much of this is about demographics, and with a US right which is increasingly obsessed with the white population becoming a minority, preventing access to contraception in southern states really isn't that unthinkable.

Re: US Abortion Laws
That's interesting. I heard another opinion in which they said they wanted abortion banned so young non white women would keep having kids in order to keep a 'serving class'.StevePottsGoalsReel wrote: ↑Wed Sep 21, 2022 7:23 am Yes, quite likely.

Possibly both are true.
Meanwhile, In Arizona over here bordering California, we have this.....
Arizona judge rules state can enforce near-total abortion ban

Re: US Abortion Laws
Ex American Football star, Herschel Walker, is running for government in Georgia under a NO ABORTION campaign. Not for rape, incest, or anything. Abortion is murder & should be outlawed, he says. He's also for strict family values & all the usual christian conservative stuff Repuiblicans run for in the South.
Yesterday an ex girlfriend came out & said that he made her get, and paid for, an abortion a decade ago. She produced a cheque from him as well as a Get Well Soon card he sent afterwards.
He denied this & threatened to sue. Now one of his four kids, by four different women, has come out & basically said "He's a w@nker. Don't vote for him". The son reckons that his whole life is a charade, which is also true of most politicians.
I reckon he'll still win.

Re: US Abortion Laws
Florida just signed in law that makes it illegal for women to get abortions after six weeks.
Unless they can prove they were raped or the baby is a result of incest.
Florida was one of the least restrictive States in the SE region so women could travel there from the rest of the bible belt but that's coming to an end now.
As you can see from the map below (showing the previous Florida rules) black states are illegal, then maroon, then purple. The various blues are more aligned with European countries.
Women are saying that they often don't even know they're pregnant at 6 weeks.

Re: US Abortion Laws
But owning and using a gun is not.
Sorry to bump this thread, but looking at the daily posts about kids being shot over in the states just makes my head spin. There is literally no logic to how these people think.

Re: US Abortion Laws
Saw an American arguing online that guns were hardly a problem as over half a million children are murdered each year in the US from abortions. I’ll never understand that country.

Re: US Abortion Laws
Couple of interesting stories I found in BBC News this morning:
This first one about how Ohio legislature is trying to move the goalposts ahead of an upcoming vote on abortion limits:
BBC News - Ahead of Ohio abortion vote, Republicans try to change the rules
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-66375877
And this one....disturbing story on a seemingly very influential anti-abortion campaigner who literally wants to end any abortions for any reason:
BBC News - She helped kill Roe v Wade - now she wants to end abortion in America

Re: US Abortion Laws
A proposed new law for Missouri would ban abortions even in the cases or rape &/or incest.
And this being Missouri, they're probably the main causes of pregnancies in that State.
