As per my tweet, I’ve unfortunately played in a game where it happened as you can see in the video - a team mate was filming as we needed 1 run to win with the last wicket partnership at the crease (42 runs too from our 9 and 11).

The non striker was just out of his crease so the umpire rightly gave it out. It then kicked off a bit which we managed to calm down, spoke to their captain (who had the right to withdraw the appeal, which he didn’t), and then asked them to leave our ground (to ensure nobody got into a fight more than anything). Their chairman had been watching and came to speak to us to apologise - and then their captain came over and said most of their team weren’t happy with it happening, so they decided to concede the game to us.

It’s in the laws and whilst many of us would say it’s not in the spirit of cricket, neither is backing up out of the crease before the ball is bowled, so it’s a difficult one - but I’m dead against it (without warning).

However they mainly ever seem to happen when a game is close - which to me shows it’s a desperate move. I’d like to see the MCC/ICC review the law to either ensure a warning must be given first time, or instead of a wicket, the result would be penalty runs for the bowling side’s innings.

You only have to stay in your ground until the ball is bowled, I fail to see what the fuss is about, especially now as at that level you can get no balled for millimetre over the
line.

However not an approach I'd recommend at recreational level

If you attempt a mankad and knock the bails off but the batter is in their crease...does it count as a legitimate delivery?

99% sure it isn't but wondered what would happen if bowlers now try it constantly against India.

No it would be a dead ball.

If it was repeatedly tried then the umpires might deem it as unfair play and penalise the fielding side with 5 penalty runs.

Part of the issue I have is how they’ve tweaked it over the years to be allowed once the bowler is in the delivery stride. When you’re backing up, you’re using the bowler as the guide (aiming to leave the crease at the same time as the ball is released). A bowler being allowed to stop like Sharma yesterday would catch a lot of people out I suspect.

This issue here was Deepti's dummy. She wasn't punishing over adventerous/piss taking running but was deliberately deceiving a player.

If the ball had been released at normal speed the batter may well still have been in.

My concept of Mankading is where someone is going early, obviously early, and even then, you give them a warning first. I'd say after that if they are still not stopping it then they are fair game.

I hope everyone does it to India women now. Let's see how they feel after a few months of it.

I’ve thought this too but actually I hope not as it would start to normalise it somewhat.

T20 is on another road, England missing Wood's speed. Pakistan openers tucking in once again...N?eed to break this quickly or we'll be chasing a large one.

Hales has to do better that is two easy catches he missed this series.. Pakistan are sturggling but that wicket would have them being very likely well under par.

What an ending. Dawson didn’t deserve to lose that. Great knock from him. Not sure they needed to go for that suicidal run for the run out, there were balls left.

Tomorrow get Hales out on the pitch doing nothing but trying to catch balls out in the deep. That's two in two matches he's spilt.
